Overwatch rank-up calculator

Pick your role queue, rank and progress, then type the progress you gain per win and lose per loss and your win rate. You get the progress to your target, the games and days it takes at your pace β€” and how long our booster would need for the same climb.

Your numbers

Your own numbers, not Blizzard's. Blizzard publishes no progress-per-win figure, so the +25% / βˆ’25% we start with is only an illustration. Replace it with the average of your last five results from the rank screen after each match β€” modifiers such as Wide, Pressure, Calibration and win or loss trends move them.

At a 55% win rate, +25% a win and βˆ’25% a loss you average +2.5% a game: about 184 games (101 wins, 83 losses), or 46 days at 4 games a day. Fastest case: 19 wins in a row. Below a 50% win rate you would stop climbing.

Rank rules from Blizzard's patch notes (a division is one progress bar; your rank updates after every match), applied to the gains and win rate you type β€” real games swing around the average. The booster estimate is our checkout engine's for this exact climb: our boosters' pace by tier, from about 4 divisions a day in Bronze to about 0.6 in Champion. How rank progress works in Overwatch

Overwatch has nine Competitive tiers of five divisions β€” Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Emerald (added on 11 August 2026), Diamond, Master, Grandmaster and Champion, 5 the lowest division and 1 the highest. That is 45 steps from Bronze 5 to Champion 1; the Top 500 Challenger leaderboard sits above Champion and is not a division. Each division is one progress bar: fill it and you move up.

Since Season 9 (13 February 2024) your rank updates after every match β€” the old "five wins or fifteen losses" update is gone β€” and modifiers on the result screen explain each change: win or loss streaks, how unstable your rank is and how favourable the match was. Blizzard says your visible rank and hidden matchmaking rating have been linked since then, so a rank that runs ahead of your rating gains less per win. Blizzard has never published a fixed amount per win, which is why the calculator asks for your numbers: expected progress per game = win rate Γ— gain βˆ’ loss rate Γ— loss, and the games are the progress you need divided by it.

Things that move your gains: a Wide group shrinks every change (16 April 2024); Pressure shows at the far ends of the ladder β€” very high ranks like Champion gain less and lose more, very low ranks the reverse (14 May 2024); and Winning Trend, Losing Trend, Calibration and MMR Decay, whose effects Blizzard reduced at higher ranks (15 October 2024). Drop below 0% and Demotion Protection keeps you in your division for one match β€” lose that one too and you fall to the division below.

FAQ

Common questions

How many wins does it take to rank up in Overwatch?

Blizzard publishes no per-win number. Each division is one progress bar and your rank updates after every match, so it depends on the progress your wins and losses move. At an illustrative +25% a win, four straight wins fill a division; over a normal mix it takes longer β€” at a 55% win rate with +25% / βˆ’25% you average +2.5% a game, about 40 games a division, and at +30% / βˆ’20% it is about 14. Read your own gains on the post-match rank screen and type them into the calculator.

How does demotion work in Overwatch?

When a loss would take your progress below 0%, Demotion Protection kicks in and you stay in your division. If you lose the next match too, you drop to the division below; win it and you stay. Since May 2024 the protection shows inside the progress bar.

Why do I lose more progress than I gain?

Usually because your visible rank sits above your hidden matchmaking rating β€” Blizzard says the two have been linked since Season 9, and a rank ahead of your rating gains less. The Pressure modifier also shrinks gains at the very top of the ladder, and a Wide group cuts every change. Winning more pulls the two back together.

How long does an Overwatch rank boost take?

Our boosters' pace, by the tier each division starts in: about 4 divisions a day in Bronze and Silver, 3.5 in Gold and Platinum, 3 in Emerald, 2.5 in Diamond, 1.5 in Master, 1 in Grandmaster and about 0.6 in Champion. The calculator adds it up for your exact climb with the same engine as checkout; Express completion is about 40% quicker.
