How to Climb as ADC in LoL (2026): Lane, Role Quest and Game Plan

How to climb as an ADC in 2026: farming safely in bot lane, playing with your support, the Role Quest that pays gold per minion and opens a seventh item slot, drake fights and positioning in the mid and late game.

  • Quest: 1,350 points
  • Reward: +300 gold
  • +2 gold per minion
  • 7th item slot

The ADC — the bot lane carry — is the role that turns farm into damage. You lane with a partner, you scale with every item, and late in the game you're the player the enemy team most wants to kill. The 2026 bot lane Role Quest leans into that: it pays gold for every minion and opens a seventh item slot. This guide covers farming safely in a two-versus-two lane, working with your support, using the quest, playing the dragons that spawn next to your lane, and staying alive in team fights.

Short answer: climb as ADC by farming every wave you safely can — a lane spawns 126 minions by 10:00 — trading only when your support can follow, pushing before each drake (first at 5:00, then 5:00 after each kill), and in fights hitting the closest target you can reach safely. Finish your 1,350-point Role Quest for +300 gold · gold per minion and takedown · 7th item slot.
Key takeaways
  • Bot's quest: 1,350 points → +300 gold, then +2 gold per minion and +40 gold per champion takedown; your boots move to the Role Quest slot, freeing a seventh item slot.
  • Minions pay double: gold, and 3 quest points each — more than any other lane.
  • The drake pit is next to you — every drake fight starts with bot lane's wave.
  • Alive is worth more than aggressive: a dead ADC deals no damage.
  • Play with your support: their engage or protection decides when you trade.

The ADC's job

An ADC's job is to be alive and hitting things for as much of the game as possible. Early that means farming — minions are your income and your quest — and trading only when your support has set it up. Later it means positioning: standing where you can damage the enemy without being reached, and taking the turrets and objectives your team opens up. Few roles benefit as much from a long game; few are punished as hard for one bad step.

Laning in a two-versus-two

Farm first

Last-hit every minion you safely can. One more CS a minute is a whole extra wave every six minutes — the CS guide shows the lane's real supply.

Trade with your support

Follow your support's engage; when they're on cooldown or away, play safe. Fighting two-versus-one in bot lane loses even a strong ADC.

Respect the jungler

Ward the river and the tri-bush with your support, and back off when the enemy jungler hasn't shown for a while.

Recall on a crash

Push the wave into their turret before you go. A cannon wave crash buys the most time.

ADC game plan for League of Legends 2026: farm every safe wave, trade with your support, finish the 1,350-point Role Quest for 300 gold, 2 gold per minion and a seventh item slot, push before each drake at 5:00 and every 5 minutes after a kill, and hit the closest safe target in fights

Your Role Quest: gold and a seventh item slot

Bot's quest needs 1,350 points. Top, Mid and Bot earn 1.5 points a second in their assigned lane from 1:05 (1 point every 3 seconds elsewhere), paused for 12 seconds after a Recall. Minions pay 3 points each for Bot — more than in any other lane — takedowns 15, plates 40, turrets 50 and epic monster assists 30. When it's done you get +300 gold, then +2 gold per minion and +40 gold per champion takedown; your boots move to the Role Quest slot, freeing a seventh item slot. The gold compounds for the rest of the game, and the seventh slot means a full build plus boots — the reason a fed ADC becomes so hard to stop in long games.

Dragons and bot lane

The first drake spawns at 5:00 in the bottom-side pit and the next one 5:00 after each kill; four drakes give a team its Dragon Soul and bring the Elder. Because the pit is next to bot lane, drake fights start with your wave: push it about 30 seconds before the spawn so the enemy duo has to choose between farm and the fight, recall to buy only when the next drake is more than a minute away, and arrive with your support and jungler, not alone. The objective timer tracks the respawn from the kill time.

Staying alive in team fights

  1. Hit the closest target you can reach safely.

Not the one you want to kill — the one you can damage without walking into the enemy team.

  2. Wait for their engage.

Walk into the fight after the enemy's main engage is used; your Flash is for the champion who can still reach you.

  3. Stand behind your front line.

Your tank and support are your walls. Fighting in front of them is how ADCs die first.

  4. Take what the fight gives.

After a won fight, a turret or drake is worth more than chasing the last enemy into their jungle.

An ADC champion pool

Two or three marksmen with different strengths cover most games: one that's safe into hard lanes, one that scales hard if the game goes long. Learn how each one trades with the common supports — a champion's best lane partner is part of its matchup. Keep the pool small enough that you know every power spike by item.

FAQ

Common questions

Is ADC a good role to climb?
It's the role that scales most with farm: the 2026 bot lane Role Quest pays +300 gold, +2 gold per minion and +40 gold per takedown and frees a seventh item slot, so a bot laner who farms well and stays alive becomes the team's damage late. The downside is reliance — you lane with a support and you're the easiest target in fights.
What does the bot lane Role Quest give?
1,350 points — from time in lane, minions (3 points each), takedowns, plates and turrets — unlock +300 gold, then +2 gold per minion and +40 gold per champion takedown, and your boots move to the Role Quest slot so you get a seventh item slot (official wiki, patch 26.21).
How do ADCs survive team fights?
Hit what you can reach safely: the closest target in range, not the one you want. Walk into a fight after the enemy's main engage has been used, keep your summoner spells for the champion that can reach you, and stand behind your frontline.
When should bot lane play for dragons?
The first drake spawns at 5:00 and the next 5:00 after each kill. Shove your wave about 30 seconds before it spawns, so the enemy duo has to choose between farm and the fight, and recall to buy only when the next drake is more than a minute away.
