- Prime + Profile Level 10
- No XP without Prime
- 11,166 full XP a week
- Level 10 ≈ 45,000 XP (est.)
Premier is Counter-Strike 2's headline ranked mode — the one with a visible CS Rating, colour tiers, season medals and leaderboards. It's also the one mode a fresh account can't open. Valve's rule is short, but the second half of it (Profile Level 10) takes most players a few weeks, and a free account never gets there at all. Here is exactly what's required, how much XP it takes, how to earn it efficiently and what happens in your first Premier matches. Checked 2026-10-15.
- Two locks: Prime Status and Profile Level 10. Free accounts can play every mode except Premier.
- Buy Prime first. XP earned on a free account doesn't exist — Valve gives no XP without Prime.
- 11,166 XP a week at full rate, then reduced XP (and the XP Overload tag) for the rest of the week.
- About four weeks of regular play to Level 10 — a community estimate, faster if you grind past the weekly allowance.
- Unlocked isn't rated: your CS Rating appears only after enough Premier wins — ten under the rules Valve set out for Season Two.
The two requirements
Prime Status is a one-time purchase on Steam (see CS2 Prime explained for the price and what else it adds). Steam Support is explicit that without it you will not receive XP from any game mode on any server — so the free-to-play route to Premier doesn't exist. Profile Level 10 is your CS2 profile rank, the XP level shown next to your name (ranks run from Recruit at 1 to Global General at 40). Both are checked per player, so every member of a Premier party needs them.
How much XP Level 10 takes
Valve doesn't publish how much XP each level needs. The figure players and community guides use is 5,000 XP per rank. On that figure the climb looks like this:
| Profile Level | XP from Level 1 (community figure) | Weeks at the full weekly rate |
|---|---|---|
| Level 2 | 5,000 XP | 0.4 |
| Level 4 | 15,000 XP | 1.3 |
| Level 6 | 25,000 XP | 2.2 |
| Level 8 | 35,000 XP | 3.1 |
| Level 10 — Premier unlocks | 45,000 XP | 4.0 |
The weekly figure is official: Valve's release notes of 6 February 2024 introduced the XP Overload tag for players who have earned all 11,166 XP of normal XP for the week and moved on to reduced XP gain. The tag lasts a minimum of one week, and extra tiers unlock if you hit the cap several weeks in a row. Reduced XP still counts — it just comes slower — so playing far past the allowance can shorten the four weeks; it can't skip them. The CS2 XP calculator works it out from your own rank and weekly XP.
Ways to earn XP faster
- Play full official matches.
XP comes from playing in Valve's official modes. Competitive, Wingman and Casual pay out over a whole match; Valve adjusted the XP limits of Deathmatch and Arms Race in May 2026, so warm-up modes aren't a shortcut.
- Do the weekly mission.
Since May 2025 you get one Weekly Mission each week; it expires after 7 days and rewards XP.
- Front-load your week.
Your first 11,166 XP are the cheap ones. Four or five evenings at the start of each week reach the allowance; the rest of the week is reduced XP.
- Use the time to learn the maps.
Premier draws its map from the seven Active Duty maps — each team now picks two and one of the four is drawn at random. Arriving with four solid maps matters more than arriving a week earlier.
What happens when Premier unlocks
- Wins before a number. Your CS Rating stays hidden and the Premier card counts your wins until it shows — ten wins under the rules Valve set out at the Season Two switch. Our placement guide covers those matches.
- Colours every 5,000. The rating is grouped into colour tiers 5,000 points wide, and Valve's 10 October 2023 notes say promotion and relegation matches happen only at colour boundaries, every 5,000 CS Rating. The tiers are in Premier ranks explained.
- Medal and leaderboards. 25 Premier wins in a season earned a season medal under Valve's Seasons Two–Four rule, and the top 1,000 players of each region appear on its leaderboard — see the season medal guide.
Premier still locked? Check these
| What you see | Most likely reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Premier greyed out on a new account | No Prime, or below Profile Level 10 | Buy Prime, then play official matches until Level 10 |
| Hours played, still Level 1–2 | The account had no Prime — no XP was ever earned | Add Prime; XP counts from then on |
| You can queue, a friend can't | Every party member needs Prime and Level 10 | Queue other modes together until they unlock it |
| Premier open, no rating showing | Not enough Premier wins yet this season | Keep winning — the Premier card counts them |
