Flex vs Solo/Duo in LoL: Differences, MMR, Rewards and Which to Climb

What separates the two ranked queues in 2026 — party rules, separate ladders and MMR, how each counts for rewards, why Flex ranks sit lower, the patch 26.9 change that unlinked them, and which one to climb for what you want.

  • Separate ranks and MMR
  • Flex: parties of 1, 2, 3 or 5
  • Both count for Victorious wins
  • Flex boosts cost 10% less

League has two ranked ladders on Summoner's Rift. Solo/Duo is the one people mean when they say "my rank"; Flex is the one you can play with your friends. They share the tiers, the LP system, the Victorious mission and the season calendar, but they keep separate ranks, separate MMR and separate decay banks — and they are priced differently to boost. This guide lays the two side by side so you can decide which rank to climb, and why a Flex boost costs 10% less here.

Short answer: Solo/Duo is the rank that counts — solo or one partner, strict duo windows, the ladder everyone compares. Flex allows parties of 1, 2, 3, 5 (never four), has its own rank and MMR, counts toward the same 15 Victorious wins, and is generally considered less competitive because full premades meet mixed lobbies. Climb Solo/Duo for the rank, Flex for the rewards with friends.
Key takeaways
  • Same tiers, separate ranks: you can be Gold in Solo/Duo and Platinum in Flex; neither affects the other.
  • Party sizes: 1–2 in Solo/Duo (with rank windows), 1/2/3/5 in Flex (no fours).
  • Both count for the Victorious skin — the 15 wins are combined across the two queues.
  • Flex is cheaper to boost because the lobbies are softer: 10% under Solo/Duo per division here.

Why Flex ranks run higher

Three things make a Flex rank easier to hold than the same Solo/Duo rank. Fewer players take it seriously, so the MMR pool at each tier is softer. Full five-stacks with voice comms meet lobbies of mixed parties and win more than their individual ratings predict. And many strong players only touch Flex for the Victorious wins, placing low and leaving. None of this is official — Riot does not publish queue-by-queue skill data — but it is why a Flex rank is read with a discount and why most boosting sites, including this one, price it below Solo/Duo.

Which rank should you climb?

Climb Solo/Duo if…

  • You want the rank people recognise, on your profile and on op.gg
  • You are aiming for the border, which uses your highest finishing tier
  • You mostly play alone or with one friend inside your window
  • You want to measure your own improvement — the ladder is honest

Climb Flex if…

  • You play with three or four friends and want it to count
  • Your friends are outside your Solo/Duo duo window
  • You want the Victorious chroma for a tier at the lowest price
  • You are Grandmaster or Challenger and want to queue together at all

Rewards: how the two queues combine

The Victorious mission counts wins in both queues toward one total of 15, and the chroma follows your peak tier in either queue — so a Gold Solo/Duo player who hits Platinum in Flex receives the Platinum chroma. The border for collecting all three skins uses your highest finishing tier too. The one thing Flex cannot do is improve the Solo/Duo rank shown by default on your profile and on every tracker.

Boosting Flex vs Solo/Duo

The two services work the same way — division by division, piloted or duo, your roles free and champions as an option — and differ in price and pace. Flex divisions are priced 10% under Solo/Duo here because the booster wins them faster; our boosters often queue Flex as a party with another verified booster, which is allowed and keeps the climb quick. Duo is available on both. If you want a specific chroma at the lowest price, Flex is the order; if you want the rank on your profile, it has to be Solo/Duo.

Pick the ladder, price the climb. Solo/Duo boost for the rank, Flex boost for the rewards — both quote your exact climb with a delivery estimate before you pay.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Flex rank the same as Solo/Duo rank?
No. Each queue has its own ladder, LP, placements and hidden MMR, and since patch 26.9 playing Flex no longer moves your Solo/Duo MMR at all.
Which rank do people check?
Solo/Duo. Profile sites, Discord flexing and the client's main badge all lead with it, and it is the ladder with the stricter duo rules — which is why the same player usually sits a tier lower in Flex.
Does Flex count for the Victorious skin?
Yes — the 15 ranked wins can come from either queue, and the chroma follows your peak tier in either.
Why is a Flex boost cheaper?
Softer lobbies and faster games: our Flex prices are 10% under Solo/Duo for the same divisions, with the same boosters, servers and options.
