LoL Honor Explained: All 5 Honor Levels, Rewards & Ranked Eligibility (2026)

How League's Honor system works since the 2025 overhaul — the five levels, how votes and good behaviour move you, what Honor 1–2 restricts, the Honor objectives and Honor 5 rewards, and why Honor 3 decides whether you get the Victorious skin.

Updated 2026-10-15 · 6 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • 5 levels, start at 3
  • Ranked rewards: Honor 3+
  • No seasonal reset
  • Objectives: 1,200 points

Honor is League of Legends' long-term behaviour score: five levels that decide how freely you can chat and ping, which Battle Pass rewards drop for you — and whether you receive your ranked rewards at the end of a season. Riot rebuilt the system in patch 25.04 (20 February 2025), removing checkpoints, seasonal resets and Honor capsules, so a lot of what you read online is out of date. This guide covers the current rules from Riot's Honor guide, checked on 2026-10-15.

Short answer: there are 5 Honor levels and everyone starts at Honor 3. Honor 4 and 5 are earned with consistent positive play; Honor 1–2 means you have an active penalty, with chat limits and no rewards. Ranked season rewards — the Victorious skin included — need Honor 3 or higher when the season closes. Honor no longer resets each season and doesn't drop while you take a break.
Key takeaways
  • Start at 3, earn 4 and 5. Levels 1–2 only happen with an active penalty.
  • Honor 3 is the ranked line. Below it you lose the season's rewards, whatever your wins.
  • No seasonal reset since 25.04 — and no checkpoints, orbs or Honor capsules any more.
  • Rewards are Battle Pass XP now: random drops from Honor 3 up, plus two Honor objectives per Act.
  • Honor 5 extras: targeted ally pings, the Honor 5 recall, Honor skins, an extra Honor vote every game.

The five Honor levels

The five League of Legends Honor levels: Honor 1 and 2 mean an active penalty with chat limits and no ranked rewards or Battle Pass XP drops; Honor 3 is the starting level with ranked rewards; Honor 4 and 5 are earned and add more drops, faster objective points and Honor 5 extras

HonorStatusChatPings / emotes per 5 sObjective points / minRanked rewards
1 Active penalty No All chat, champion-select chat or post-game chat 2 / 2 0 No
2 Active penalty No All chat 4 / 2 0 No
3 Starting level Full chat 6 / 3 1 Yes
4 Earned Full chat 7 / 4 2 Yes
5 Earned Full chat 7 / 5 10 Yes

Team and party chat stay open at every level — the restrictions remove All chat first and then champion-select and post-game chat. The ping and emote limits are how many you can use within five seconds before a short lockout; targeted ally pings are an Honor 5 feature.

How Honor goes up

After each game you can Honor players on either team — one vote per player, and votes can't be taken back. You always get at least one vote per game: one for playing the match, one more if you were Honored in your previous match and one more at Honor 5. Unused votes bank up to 4.

Riot doesn't publish the formula that moves your level. Its Honor guide points to positive chat and teamwork, and says Honor 4 and 5 need you to keep playing positively — you'll get a warning before you're demoted from either. Riot's wiki adds that progress isn't tied to the number of votes you receive or your KDA, so the practical rule is simple: finish games, keep chat civil, avoid reports.

How Honor drops — and how to get it back

  • An active penalty — a chat restriction or a suspension — drops you to Honor 1 or 2.
  • To recover, play a set number of games without being reported; Riot says you'll be restored to at least Honor 3. A new penalty erases that progress.
  • Breaks don't hurt. Honor doesn't fall while you're away, has no seasonal reset and carries over if you transfer servers.
  • Boosting is the exception you can't play off quickly. Riot's boosting penalty page says Honor drops to level 0 and only unlocks some time after the penalty — see is LoL boosting safe.

What Honor gives you

  • Battle Pass XP drops at random from Honor 3, slightly more often at Honor 4 and most often at Honor 5. Honor 1–2 get none.
  • Honor objectives: 2 per season Act, each needing 1,200 points and paying 50 Battle Pass XP plus a Hextech Chest and Key. Points come per minute played: 10 at Honor 5, 2 at Honor 4, 1 at Honor 3 — none at Honor 1–2.
  • Honor 5: targeted ally pings, the Honor 5 recall, Honor skins, an extra Honor vote every game.

The old Honor capsules, orbs and key fragments belong to the pre-25.04 system. When it changed, leftover Honor 5 tokens were converted into 1,050 Orange Essence.

Honor and your ranked rewards

This is where Honor costs players the most. Riot's ranked rewards — the season's Victorious skin and its chroma — go only to players at Honor 3 or higher. The skin itself needs 15 ranked wins in the season (Solo/Duo and Flex combined), so a player can do all the winning and still lose the skin to a chat restriction that's active when the season closes. If you've had a penalty this season, check your Honor in the social panel — Riot added Honor and active-penalty information there in patch 26.12 — well before the final weeks. The full reward rules are in LoL ranked rewards explained, and the season's end date is in when LoL Season 3 2026 ends.

Keeping your Honor high

  1. Mute early.

Muting a tilted teammate costs nothing; arguing with them is how chat restrictions start.

  2. Finish every game.

Leaving and AFKs are penalties too — and penalties are what drop Honor. See LoL AFK and leaver penalties.

  3. Use your votes.

They bank up to 4, so there's no reason not to Honor the jungler who ganked your lane.

  4. Check before the season ends.

Honor 3 on closing day is what counts for rewards.

FAQ

Common questions

How many Honor levels are there in LoL?
Five. Everyone starts at Honor 3; Honor 4 and 5 are earned with consistent positive play, and Honor 1 and 2 mean you have an active penalty. Honor no longer resets each season.
What Honor level do you need for ranked rewards?
Honor 3 or higher. Players at Honor 1 or 2 don't receive ranked season rewards — including the Victorious skin, which also needs 15 ranked wins in the season.
How do you get Honor back after a penalty?
Play a set number of games without being reported — Riot says you'll be restored to at least Honor 3. A new penalty wipes that progress.
What do you get at Honor 5?
Targeted ally pings, the Honor 5 recall, Honor skins, an extra Honor vote every game, the most frequent Battle Pass XP drops and the fastest progress on Honor objectives (10 points a minute).
