- Baron at 20:00
- No Atakhan in 2026
- Plates stay all game
- Inhibitors back in 5:00
Macro is everything you do in League of Legends that isn't mechanics: where you go after you shove a wave, which objective to fight for, when to group and when to split, and how to turn a lead into a win. It's also the biggest gap between Gold and Diamond players β the mechanics are often close, the decisions aren't. And in 2026 the map itself changed: Atakhan is gone, Baron comes at 20 minutes, turret plates stay all game and epic monsters scale with champion level. This guide gives you a macro plan for every phase on patch 26.21. Checked 2026-10-25.
- Priority first: the team whose waves are pushed can move to objectives first.
- 2026 timings: drake 5:00, grubs 8:00, Herald 15:00, Baron 20:00 β no Atakhan.
- Plates stay all game and inner turrets have plates too β pushing a lead pays more.
- Epic monsters scale with champion level, not game time.
- Waves speed up: every 25 seconds from 14:00, a cannon every wave from 25:00.
What macro actually is
Every decision on the map comes back to three questions: where are the waves, where is the next objective, and where is the enemy jungler? A team that answers them a few seconds before the other team wins objectives without fighting for them. That's why the best macro players look like they're "always in the right place" β they moved before the fight started.
Good macro
- Waves pushed before you leave lane
- Vision placed a minute before the objective
- Trading objectives across the map instead of contesting a lost one
Bad macro
- Five players chasing one kill into fog
- Starting Baron with no vision and two lanes pushing towards you
- Leaving a big wave to crash into your turret
A plan for every phase
| Phase | What wins it |
|---|---|
| 0β8 min | Lane priority and first drake at 5:00 β the side with push gets to move first |
| 8β14 min | Voidgrubs at 8:00, the second drake and plates β plates no longer fall off, so a lead keeps paying |
| 14β20 min | Rift Herald at 15:00, mid-lane control and the third drake |
| 20+ min | Baron at 20:00, the soul fight and side lanes β group for objectives, split only with vision |
The objectives in 2026
The objective timers guide lists every spawn and respawn; the macro version is shorter:
- Drakes from 5:00, every 5 minutes after a kill; four give a team its Dragon Soul. Drakes now scale with champion levels and are at least level 6, and Dragon Vengeance β the damage reduction drakes get against the team with more drakes β was raised to 15/30/45%, so the team behind fights them at a discount.
- Voidgrubs spawn once, at 8:00: 30 gold to the killer only (was 210 shared); they no longer heal. Their value is the push they add to your team, not the gold.
- Rift Herald at 15:00, once: its charge deals 3,000 to a structure β use it on a turret with plates left.
- Baron Nashor at 20:00: the buff that ends games. Elder Dragon takes over the drake pit after a soul (level 13 or higher).
Also new: epic monsters now scale with champion level, not game time (26.1), and red and blue buffs are no longer global after 25:00 β Baron no longer corrupts them either.
Turrets, plates and inhibitors
- 120 ga plate β and plates stay all game
- 5:00for a destroyed inhibitor to return
- 40%health when a nexus turret respawns
- 5,000health on an inner turret
Inner and inhibitor turrets have plates too: 600 gold across 5 plates, so taking the second turret of a lane pays almost like the first. Once an inhibitor falls, that lane gets one super minion per wave β two per lane once all three are down. Each base wall also has two gates only the owning team can walk through β useful for escaping.
Side lanes and waves after laning
After 14:00 waves come every 25 seconds with a cannon every second wave, and from 25:00 every wave has a cannon. That means an un-farmed side wave quickly becomes a big one. The simple rule: before an objective, push the side waves towards the enemy so they have to choose between the wave and the fight.
- Push side waves first.
Two pushing waves before Baron make the enemy split up or lose structures.
- Split only with a reason.
A split-pusher needs vision, Teleport or mobility, and a team that won't fight four against five.
- Group for the big objectives.
Drake soul fights and Baron are won by the team that arrives with five.
- Reset together.
Back as a team after a won fight, buy, and come back to the next objective at full strength.
Turning a lead into a win
When you're ahead
- Take vision away around the next objective
- Trade a kill for a turret, not for more kills
- Don't force fights in the enemy jungle without wards
When you're behind
- Farm safely and wait for their mistakes
- Trade objectives across the map instead of contesting lost ones
- Use drake Vengeance β drakes are easier for the team behind
Vision makes all of this possible β the vision guide covers where to ward in each phase, and the teamfighting guide covers what to do once the fight starts.
