LoL Vision Guide: Where to Ward, Control Wards and Vision Score (2026)

How vision works in League of Legends in 2026: every ward and trinket, the 2026 changes, where to ward in each phase of the game, how vision score is counted and the habits that win objectives.

Updated 2026-10-25 Β· 10 min read Β· by the BoostPirate crew
  • 3 Stealth Wards max
  • Control Ward: 75 gold
  • Oracle sweep: 8 s
  • Faelights: +25% vision

Vision decides fights before they happen: the team that sees the jungler coming dodges the gank, and the team that controls the river takes the dragon. It's also the cheapest way to climb β€” a 75-gold Control Ward often does more than a 3,000-gold item. This guide covers every ward and trinket on patch 26.21, what changed in 2026 (support Control Wards, Faelights, the Stealth Ward recharge), where to ward in each phase of the game, and how vision score is counted. Checked 2026-10-25.

Short answer: each player can have 3 Stealth Wards and 1 Control Ward on the map. The Stealth Ward trinket holds 2 charges that last 90–120 s; a Control Ward costs 75 gold (you can carry 2) and reveals and disables enemy wards. Oracle Lens sweeps for 8 seconds and Farsight (level 9) wards from 4,000 range. Ward where the next objective or gank will be β€” not where it was.
Key takeaways
  • Limits: 3 Stealth Wards and 1 Control Ward per player on the map.
  • Supports since 26.3 start with Control Wards in their role quest slot; after the quest they cost 40 gold.
  • Faelights (26.1): a ward on one becomes a superward with +25% vision.
  • Vision score counts ward time you provide and enemy ward time you deny.
  • Ward ahead of objectives β€” about a minute before the spawn.

Every ward and trinket

ItemCostHow it works
Stealth Ward item iconStealth Wardtrinket2 charges; each ward lasts 90–120 s (average champion level), 3 health; recharge 210–90 s by level (26.3)
Control Ward item iconControl Ward75 goldCarry 2, one on the map per player; reveals and disables enemy wards and traps; 4 health; lasts until killed
Oracle Lens item iconOracle LenstrinketFrom level 1; reveals and disables hidden wards and traps around you for 8 s (26.1); 2 charges, 160–100 s
Farsight Alteration item iconFarsight AlterationtrinketFrom level 9; places a 1-health visible ward up to 4,000 range away; 198–99 s

Destroying an enemy Stealth Ward gives 10 gold and no experience. Farsight wards don't count toward your ward limit and last until they're killed β€” but enemies can see them, and they have 1 health.

The support item and 2026's vision changes

Supports carry the team's extra vision. The support item starts as World Atlas (400 gold); earn 400 gold with Shared Riches to upgrade to Runic Compass, then 800 more for Bounty of Worlds; charges refill at the shop. Runic Compass holds 3 ward charges and Bounty of Worlds 4 ward charges.

  2. Patch 26.3 Β· February 2026Wards from minute one

Supports start the match with Control Wards in their role quest slot, and the Stealth Ward recharge became 210–90 s by level.

Where to ward, phase by phase

Laning (0–14 min)

  • Your side of the river, on the path the enemy jungler takes to your lane
  • Tri-bush or river bush in bot lane
  • A Control Ward in a bush you walk past often

Objectives

  • The pit and its entrances about a minute before dragon, grubs, Herald or Baron spawn
  • Clear enemy wards with Oracle Lens first
  • Faelights near the pit for bonus vision

Mid game

  • The enemy jungle on the side your team is pushing
  • Side-lane entrances when someone split-pushes
  • Deep wards to track their jungler

Late game

  • Vision around Baron and Elder before they spawn
  • Sweep before every objective
  • Never walk into fog alone

The objective timer tells you when the next spawn is β€” that's when your wards should be in place.

How vision score works

The official wiki describes vision score as 1 point per minute of ward lifetime you provide, plus 1 per minute of enemy ward lifetime you deny β€” less for redundant or pointless wards. Two practical rules follow: a ward in a useful spot that lives long earns more than three wards stacked in one bush, and clearing enemy wards counts as much as placing your own. Since 26.1 a ward on a Faelight earns 25% more score.

  • 3Stealth Wards per player on the map
  • 75 ga Control Ward (40 g for supports after their quest)
  • 8 sOracle Lens sweep
  • +25%vision on a Faelight ward

Vision runes in Domination

RuneWhat it does
Sixth SenseOn a long cooldown, senses a nearby hidden ward (250 s, wiki)
Grisly Mementos6 trinket haste per collected memento, up to 18
Deep WardWards in the enemy jungle gain health and duration; from level 9 river wards too

Vision habits for every role

  1. Buy a Control Ward every back.

75 gold is the best value in the shop when it's in the right bush.

  2. Use your trinket on cooldown.

A charge sitting full is vision you didn't place.

  3. Swap to Oracle Lens when it helps.

Supports and junglers usually switch after the first items; laners keep the Stealth Ward longer.

  4. Ward before you need it.

A minute before the objective, not when the fight has started.

FAQ

Common questions

How many wards can you have in LoL?
Three Stealth Wards on the map per player, plus one Control Ward. The Stealth Ward trinket holds 2 charges; each ward lasts 90–120 seconds depending on average champion level.
How much is a Control Ward?
75 gold, and you can carry two. Supports start with Control Wards in their role quest slot since patch 26.3, and once the support quest is done a Control Ward costs them 40 gold.
How is vision score calculated?
One point per minute of ward lifetime you provide plus one per minute of enemy ward lifetime you deny β€” reduced for redundant or pointless wards. Since 26.1, wards on Faelights earn 25% more.
When should you switch to Oracle Lens?
Usually supports and junglers switch once the first items are done, to clear wards before objectives; Oracle Lens is available from level 1 and sweeps for 8 seconds (patch 26.1). Laners mostly keep the Stealth Ward until later.
