How to Unlock Ranked in R6 Siege (2026): Level 50, Premium and 2FA

What Rainbow Six Siege needs before Ranked opens: what Free Access includes, the premium offer, level 50, 2-step verification, the PC specs and platforms, and what your first ranked games look like.

Updated 2026-11-02 · 8 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • Not in Free Access
  • Premium offer needed
  • Level 50 to unlock
  • 2-step verification on

Rainbow Six Siege has been free to start since Siege X launched on 10 June 2025, and every season brings new players who open the playlists and find Ranked greyed out. That's by design: Ranked isn't part of Free Access. This guide explains what unlocks it as of 2 November 2026: what Free Access includes, which premium offers there are, how level 50 works, how to set up 2-step verification so it also covers the Legend Division later, the platforms and PC specification, and what your first ranked games look like once the playlist opens.

Short answer: Rainbow Six Siege is free to start, but Ranked isn't part of Free Access. You need a paid premium offer (an edition, an upgrade or Ubisoft+), your account at level 50, and 2-step verification turned on for your Ubisoft account. Free Access covers Quick Match, Unranked and Dual Front with a selection of operators. Your first ranked games are five placement matches.
Key takeaways
  • Free Access doesn't include Ranked or Siege Cup. Both need a premium offer.
  • Ranked opens at level 50 once you own a premium offer.
  • Turn on 2-step verification, ideally with an authenticator app, which the Legend Division requires.
  • Edition prices vary by store and region, so check yours; Steam listed an Elite Edition and a Y11 Ultimate Edition on 1 November 2026.
  • Your first ranked games are five placement matches, with no squad rank limits.

The three things Ranked needs

  1. A premium offer.

Ubisoft's Free Access page: "Certain features like Ranked playlists, Siege Cup, additional operators, and cosmetics require payment to unlock."

  2. Level 50.

The premium upgrade "unlocks Ranked and Siege Cup modes as players progress to level 50". Buying an offer at level 12 doesn't open Ranked on the spot; it opens when you reach 50.

  3. 2-step verification on your Ubisoft account.

Ranked also needs 2-step verification switched on for the account. The Legend Division later accepts only an authenticator app, so set that up from the start.

If the playlist is still locked after all three, check them in that order: the offer on the account you're signed in with, your level, then the security settings on your Ubisoft account. Our free R6 Ranked & Legend Division Checker walks through the same checks, and the Legend Division's.

What Free Access gives you

"Enjoy free access to Quick Match, Unranked and Dual Front game modes with a selection of operators," Ubisoft's page says. Steam's store listing mentions only Quick Match and Unranked, so if Dual Front isn't in your menu, check Ubisoft's current playlist news.

Ubisoft's roster lists 78 operators, half attackers and half defenders, and its operator page has a "Starter Operators" filter. Ubisoft doesn't say on that page how many operators Free Access includes, so look at what's unlocked in your own menu before you plan an operator pool.

Choosing a premium offer

Any paid premium offer starts the road to Ranked. Ubisoft's Free Access page offers a premium upgrade, editions and a Ubisoft+ subscription, with store choices for the Ubisoft Store, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam. On Steam on 1 November 2026 the paid options were the Elite Edition and the Y11 Ultimate Edition.

Editions bundle different operators and cosmetics, and prices differ by store, region and current sale, so compare on the store you use rather than trusting a price quoted elsewhere. Two things to check before you pay: buy on the platform and account you'll actually play on, and make sure that Ubisoft account is the one linked to it.

Getting to level 50

Level 50 is your account level, which Siege calls your clearance level, and it rises with the experience you earn from playing matches. Ubisoft publishes no XP-per-match figure, so nobody can honestly tell you it takes a fixed number of hours; it depends on how much and what you play. Clearance levels gate other features too: Ubisoft's Split Fire notes, for example, set Beginner Friendly Fire for players below clearance level 10.

Use the climb to 50 as practice for Ranked rather than a grind:

  • Learn the maps you'll ban from. Ranked uses a five-map ban of 3 Pro Pool and 2 Seasonal Pool maps; play those maps in Quick Match and Unranked.
  • Build a small operator pool. Two operators per side that you know well beat a dozen you've tried once.
  • Practise droning and comms. Ranked 3.0 counts wins, not kills: "KDA is not a factor in rank progression."

Turning on 2-step verification

Ranked needs 2-step verification on your Ubisoft account, and the method you pick matters later. Three reasons to use an authenticator app rather than e-mail codes:

  • The Legend Division requires it. Players must "activate 2-step verification by adding an authenticator app to their Ubisoft account".
  • It's coming to the rest of the game. "Eventually, two-factor authentication via app will be rolled out to other divisions of Rainbow Six Siege as well," Ubisoft said on 7 August 2026.
  • Ubisoft recommends it. In November 2025 Ubisoft strongly encouraged players to use 2-step verification, preferably with a mobile authenticator app, and in August 2026 it announced an Alpha Pack for everyone who enables it.

The general steps (ours, not Ubisoft's wording): sign in to your Ubisoft account on Ubisoft's website, open the account's security settings, turn on 2-step verification, choose the authenticator app option, scan the code with your app and keep any backup codes Ubisoft gives you somewhere safe.

Platforms and PC requirements

Siege runs on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Steam's listing gave this PC minimum specification on 1 November 2026:

PartMinimum
OSWindows 10 or 11, 64-bit
ProcessorAMD Ryzen 3 3100 or Intel Core i3-8100
Memory8 GB RAM
GraphicsNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB), AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (4 GB) or Intel Arc A380 (6 GB)
DirectXVersion 12
Storage65 GB

If you play on PC and hope to reach the Legend Division one day, check now that your PC supports Secure Boot, Windows Memory Integrity (HVCI) and TPM 2.0: the playlist's ShieldGuard Secure Platform needs all three switched on. Our ShieldGuard and Secure Boot guide explains them. On console, native mouse and keyboard has been allowed since 14 July 2026, but only in the PC & Consoles crossplay pool; see mouse and keyboard on console.

Your first ranked games

The playlist opens with five placement matches: "players will complete 5 Placement Matches before receiving their starting Rank." They "grant increased Rank Point gains" and carry no squad restrictions, so you can bring friends of any rank. Nobody places straight into Champion. After that, Ranked 3.0 runs on visible Rank Points only, with no hidden MMR, and squads must sit within three full ranks (two for Diamond and Champion). A new season every three months or so resets ranks and starts the five placements again.

Help with your first season

Our services need an account that already has Ranked unlocked: the premium offer, level 50 and 2-step verification. From there, prices come from the same engine as checkout, on PC. A new account's placements are priced as Copper. Five placement games for a new account are $11.70 today, and two hours of coaching $26.82. Rainbow Six Siege boosting isn't open for orders yet: get the launch alert on the R6 page.

Know the rules first: Ubisoft's Player Protection Core Rules (31 July 2026) list "Paying or using external services to inflate rank" as boosting, with sanctions up to a permanent ban. Read the Risk Disclosure and is R6 boosting bannable? first. For a new player, coaching is often the better buy anyway: it stays inside the rules and teaches the basics your first season tests.

Rainbow Six Siege boosting opens soon. Get the launch alert on the R6 page. The service pages already show live prices for coaching (from $14.90 an hour) and placement games (from $4.00 a game).
