VALORANT Ranks Explained (2026): Every Rank from Iron to Radiant

Every VALORANT rank from Iron 1 to Radiant: how the 25 divisions work, how RR moves you between them, what changes at Immortal and Radiant, Act Rank and ranked rewards, and where most players sit.

Updated 2026-10-31 · 9 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • 9 ranks, 25 divisions
  • 100 RR per division
  • Radiant: top 500 per region
  • Ranked from account level 20

VALORANT's ranked ladder looks simple from the outside — nine ranks with Riot's coloured icons — but the rules change as you climb, and the top of the ladder works nothing like the bottom. This guide lays out the ladder as it stands on 31 October 2026 (V26 // Act VI, patch 13.09): every rank in order, how Rank Rating moves you from one division to the next, why Immortal and Radiant are a leaderboard rather than a progress bar, how you earn your first rank, what Act Rank and the ranked rewards are, and where most players actually sit.

Short answer: VALORANT has nine ranks — Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal and Radiant. The first eight have three divisions each (1 is the lowest), which makes 25 steps from Iron 1 to Radiant. From Iron to Ascendant you need 100 RR to move up a division. At Immortal, RR counts up from 10 without a cap, Immortal 2 and 3 are regional RR lines, and Radiant needs your region's threshold and a top-500 place on its leaderboard.
Key takeaways
  • Competitive unlocks at account level 20. Your first rank comes from five placement matches, and nobody places above Ascendant 3.
  • 100 RR promotes, 0 RR plus a loss demotes — except in tier 1 of a rank, where two Rank Shields absorb the first two losses.
  • Immortal is a leaderboard. RR starts at 10 and keeps counting; Immortal 2, Immortal 3 and Radiant are RR lines that differ by region.
  • Act Rank is your best win, not your current rank. Nine wins in an Act earn the badge and the ranked gun buddy.
  • Most players are Silver to Platinum. A third-party estimate puts Gold as the largest rank at about 22%.

Every VALORANT rank in order

Riot's own wording: each rank except Radiant has three tiers, and the higher the number, the better the rank. So Gold 3 sits just below Platinum 1, and Gold 1 is the bottom of Gold. Riot calls these steps tiers; most players call them divisions, and this guide uses both. The table runs from the bottom of the ladder to the top; the last column is a third-party estimate of how many ranked players hold each rank (esportstales.com, September 2026, V26 Act V) — Riot doesn't publish one.

Ascendant is the newest rank. Riot added it between Diamond and Immortal in June 2022 (patch 5.0), and at the same time raised the highest possible placement from Diamond 1 to Ascendant 1 — today it is Ascendant 3.

How you move between divisions

From Iron 1 to Ascendant 3 every division is a bar from 0 to 100 Rank Rating (RR). Riot's support article sets the rules:

  • After placements you start at 50 RR in the division you are placed in.
  • At 100 RR you move up a division and start the new one with at least 10 RR.
  • At 0 RR you aren't demoted yet — you have to lose once more. You then start the division below on at least 70 RR.
  • Rank Shields (added in patch 10.01, January 2025): entering tier 1 of a rank — Silver 1, Gold 1 and so on — gives you two shields. Each loss at 0 RR there costs a shield instead of your rank, so only the third drops you to the rank below. Tiers 2 and 3 have no shields.

How much RR a single game gives you is decided by your hidden matchmaking rating, the result and, below Immortal, a little by how you played. That is a whole topic of its own — our RR and MMR guide explains it, and the RR calculator turns your gains into the wins you still need.

Immortal and Radiant: a leaderboard, not a bar

The top two ranks change the rules. When you reach Immortal 1 you start on 10 RR and the RR simply keeps adding up — there is no 100 RR promotion any more. Immortal 2 and Immortal 3 are fixed RR lines set per region, and Radiant needs both your region's RR line and a place among its top 500 players. Riot re-set these lines in patch 12.05 (March 2026) to even out the leaderboards between regions:

RegionImmortal 2Immortal 3Radiant (plus top 500)
Europe (EU)100 RR200 RR500 RR
North America (NA)90 RR200 RR450 RR
Asia-Pacific (APC)80 RR200 RR400 RR
Brazil (BR)100 RR230 RR340 RR
Latin America (LATAM)90 RR150 RR200 RR
Korea (KR)90 RR150 RR200 RR

At this height RR depends only on wins and losses — Riot's performance adjustments stop at Ascendant — and every Immortal and Radiant player appears on the regional leaderboard. There is no rank decay in VALORANT, but you can slide down the leaderboard as others pass you. The full detail is in our Immortal and Radiant guide.

The VALORANT rank ladder in 2026: Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant and Immortal with three divisions each, then Radiant; 100 RR promotes from Iron 1 to Ascendant 3; Immortal 1 starts at 10 RR with no cap; Radiant needs the regional RR line plus a top-500 place; Competitive unlocks at account level 20 and the highest placement is Ascendant 3

Unlocking ranked and getting your first rank

Competitive needs account level 20; winning ten unrated games stopped being a shortcut years ago. Your first five Competitive games are placement matches. The result sets your starting rank, and the highest anyone can place is Ascendant 3 — even a professional on a fresh account has to win the Immortal ranks in ordinary games. Riot has said it places players on the low side on purpose, so that the next games pull you up to where you belong.

Placements come back during the year. Each season is split into six Acts: Act I and Act IV bring a full reset with five placement games, and the other four Acts ask for a single game to show your rank again. Our placement matches guide covers how to prepare, and the Act reset guide walks through the calendar.

Rank, Act Rank and ranked rewards

VALORANT shows three different "ranks", and they answer different questions:

Rank — where you are now

The icon your party, the tab scoreboard and the end-of-game screen show. It moves with every game and is what matchmaking and party rules read.

Act Rank — your best win this Act

Decided by your highest ranked win, which Riot calls your proven skill. Each win adds a triangle to the badge's pyramid; nine Competitive wins in an Act earn the badge, and its border evolves at 9, 25, 50, 75 and 100 wins.

Rank Legacy — your career

Added in patch 13.06 (September 2026): a counter of how often you have reached each rank, shown in the Competitive Hub. Each rank can count once per three Acts (I–III and IV–VI), and demoting into a rank doesn't count.

Ranked reward — the gun buddy

At mid-season and at season end you get a gun buddy matching your highest Act Rank badge. Riot said in May 2026 that the V26 Act III and Act VI buddies are the last to be the main ranked reward; a progression-based system is planned for 2027.

Where most players sit

Riot doesn't publish rank percentages, so every distribution you see is an estimate. The figures we use come from esportstales.com, September 2026, V26 Act V and are rounded:

  • Gold is the largest rank at about 22.1%, followed by Silver (20.7%) and Platinum (17.6%).
  • About 41% of ranked players are below Gold — Iron, Bronze and Silver together.
  • Diamond and above is roughly one player in five (about 19%).
  • Ascendant and above is under 8%, Immortal about 1.4%, and Radiant about 0.05% — it is capped at 500 players per region.

The practical reading: Gold or Platinum is the middle of the ladder, Diamond is already the top fifth, and Ascendant puts you in a small group of very good players.

How the ladder has changed

The ranks themselves have been stable since Ascendant arrived; the rules around them have not. The changes that matter for a player on the ladder today:

WhenChange
Jun 2022 · 5.0Ascendant added between Diamond and Immortal.
Jan 2025 · 10.01Rank Shields: two per tier 1, so a bad night at 0 RR no longer drops you a whole rank at once.
2025Episodes replaced by seasons named for the year (V25, V26), each split into six Acts.
Oct 2025 – Feb 2026Riot Mobile verification required to queue Competitive at Ascendant and above, region by region.
Jan 2026 · 12.00Hidden MMR calculation reworked for more even matches.
Mar 2026 · 12.05Immortal 2, Immortal 3 and Radiant RR lines re-set for every region.
Jun 2026 · 13.00RR maths adjusted so steady winners feel less stuck; on PC, each team's average rank kept within one sub-tier.
Jul 2026 · 13.01Penalties for confirmed rank manipulation: suspensions, rank reversions and reward reversions.
Sep 2026 · 13.06Performance Score replaces ACS on the scoreboard; Rank Legacy added to the Competitive Hub.

Help with the climb

If the rank is the goal and the hours aren't there, our VALORANT services are priced from the same engine as checkout. Gold 1 to Platinum 1 is $13.77 today, and five placement games after a Gold finish $11.70 — shown before you sign in. Be clear about the rules first: Riot forbids boosting — playing on someone else's account, or carrying them to a rank they didn't earn — and since patch 13.01 confirmed rank manipulation can mean a suspension and a rank reversion. Coaching is the option that stays inside the rules; read is VALORANT boosting safe? before you order anything else.

  • Climb: Rank Boost from any division up to Immortal 3, piloted or duo on your own account.
  • Place: Placement Matches — one to five games, priced by the rank you finished last Act.
  • The top: Immortal RR & Radiant, priced per 10 RR toward your region's line.
  • Learn it yourself: 1-on-1 coaching with an Immortal+ coach.
Pick your next rank. Price a rank boost (from $3.15 a division), your placement games (from $1.70 a game) or an Immortal RR push — the booster is paid only after you approve the result.

What rank do most VALORANT players have?
Riot doesn't publish an official distribution. A third-party estimate for September 2026 (esportstales.com) puts Gold as the largest rank with about 22% of ranked players, with Silver close behind at about 21%.
When can you play ranked in VALORANT?
From account level 20. You then play five placement matches for your first rank, and nobody can place higher than Ascendant 3.
