- One action per bind (2024)
- No jump-throw bind needed
- Walk is +sprint
- Switch hands: H
A good bind saves a fraction of a second every round: dropping the bomb without opening a menu, buying a full kit with one key, jumping on the scroll wheel. CS2 also changed the rules on what a bind may do — since August 2024 a single key can no longer trigger several movement or shooting actions, which quietly broke jump-throw binds, null binds and Snap Tap tricks. This guide covers the bind syntax, CS2's default keys, the multi-action rule with the full list of restricted commands, why you don't need a jump-throw bind any more, the binds still worth adding, and where CS2 saves them. Checked against Valve's notes and command list on 2026-10-25.
bind <key> "<command>" — for example
bind mwheeldown +jump. Since 19 August 2024 a bind that combines more than one movement or attack command (jump,
duck, attack, forward …) is ignored on normal servers, so jump-throw and null binds no longer work — and you don't need them: Valve
made jump throws consistent without a bind. Buy, drop, slot and radio binds still work. Your binds are saved in
cs2_user_keys_0_slot0.vcfg in your Steam userdata folder.- Syntax:
bind <key> "<command>"; several commands in quotes, separated by semicolons. - One action per bind since 19 August 2024 for the 24 movement and attack commands.
- No jump-throw bind needed — Valve said so on 22 March 2023 and improved jump throws again on 18 May 2026.
- Switch hands with H since 25 April 2024.
- Walk is
+sprintin CS2, not+speed.
How binding works in CS2
Enable the console (Settings → Game → Enable Developer Console (~) → Yes), press the key under Esc and type a bind. One command needs no quotes; several commands go in quotes with semicolons between them:
bind mwheeldown +jump bind n "slot5; drop" unbind n
Two CS2 details catch people out. First, keys are bound by keyboard position (scancode), not by the letter printed on the key — on a non-US keyboard the key in the US position is the one that's bound. Second,
host_writeconfig writes your current settings — binds included — to your config files straight away. Most binds can also
be set in Settings → Keyboard / Mouse, including the menu-only commands.

The 2024 rule: one action per bind
On 19 August 2024 Valve's notes said: "Input binds that include more than one of the following commands will now be ignored by default". The restricted commands are:
sprint · reload · attack · attack2 · turnleft · turnright · turnup · turndown · forward · back · left · right · moveup · movedown · klook · use · jump · duck · strafe · zoom · yaw · pitch · forwardback · rightleft
A bind with one of them still works (bind mwheeldown +jump); a bind with two or more is ignored. The old behaviour
only comes back with cl_allow_multi_input_binds 1, a cheat-protected variable — so on any normal server, matchmaking included, it's off.
The same update went after hardware tricks: "Certain types of movement/shooting input automation such as hardware-assisted counter strafing will now be detected on Valve official servers", and in Valve's words players suspected of automating multiple player actions from a single game input may be kicked from their match. If your keyboard has a Snap Tap or
similar "last input wins" feature, turn it off before you queue.
Jump-throw binds: no longer needed
- 22 March 2023No bind in CS2
Valve: "In CS2 jump throws are possible and consistent without a bind, therefore there is no jump throw bind."
- 19 August 2024Combined binds ignored
Jump-throw aliases stop working, and the jump-throw confirmation grunt can now be heard by other players nearby.
- 18 May 2026Even more consistent
Valve improved the consistency of grenade jump throws and the accuracy of the jump-throw preview camera.
To jump-throw now, hold the throw, then press jump and let go of the grenade in one motion. CS2 records the exact moment of each input, so the same timing gives the same throw. Practise the timing on a practice server with the grenade preview on.
Binds worth adding
| Bind | What it does | Note |
|---|---|---|
bind mwheeldown +jump | Jump on the scroll wheel | One command, so it's allowed |
bind x "slot3; slot1" | Snap to your knife and back to your primary | Slot commands aren't on the restricted list |
bind n "slot5; drop" | Drop the bomb in one press | No restricted command in it |
bind kp_end "buy ak47; buy m4a1" | Rifle buy for either side | m4a1 is the M4A4; m4a1_silencer the M4A1-S |
bind kp_downarrow "buy vesthelm; buy defuser" | Armour and a kit | The kit only buys on CT |
bind kp_pgdn "buy smokegrenade; buy flashbang" | Smoke and flash | |
bind - clutch_mode_toggle | Mute teammates while you clutch | A menu command |
bind mouse5 player_ping | Ping without moving your fingers |
Buy names follow the weapon's internal name: ak47, m4a1 (M4A4), m4a1_silencer, awp,
vesthelm, defuser, smokegrenade, flashbang, hegrenade, molotov and
incgrenade. The keypad keys (kp_end, kp_downarrow …) are a good home for buy binds because you never
need them mid-fight.
CS:GO binds that changed
| Old habit | In CS2 |
|---|---|
+speed | +sprint (Shift by default) — walking kept the old key, the command changed name |
cl_righthand 0 | Use cl_prefer_lefthanded, or the switchhands key (H) to swap mid-round |
r_cleardecals | Not in CS2's command list — the only similar command, cl_removedecals, needs cheats |
jump-throw alias (+jump; -attack) | Ignored since 19 August 2024 — jump throws work without a bind |
null-movement binds | Ignored since 19 August 2024 — and hardware Snap Tap can get you kicked |
