LoL Blue Essence Guide: Champion Prices and How to Earn More (2026)

What champions cost in Blue Essence after Riot halved prices in 2025, every way to earn Blue Essence in 2026, how shards and chests work, and the smartest order to unlock champions.

Updated 2026-10-25 Β· 8 min read Β· by the BoostPirate crew
  • Prices halved: 5 Mar 2025
  • Most champions: 2,400 BE
  • New champions: 3,150 BE
  • Shards: 40% / 60%

Blue Essence is League's free currency β€” and since Riot halved every champion's Blue Essence price in March 2025, it goes twice as far as most older guides say. It's also earned differently now: mostly through the Battle Pass, not mastery chests. This guide lists every price tier, every way to earn Blue Essence in 2026, how champion shards and chests work, and the order that unlocks the most useful champions for the least essence. Checked 2026-10-25.

Short answer: champions cost 225, 675, 1,575, 2,400 or 3,150 Blue Essence (260 to 975 RP) β€” most are 2,400, new champions launch at 3,150. Riot cut every BE price by 50% on 5 March 2025 (patch 25.5). You earn Blue Essence mostly the Battle Pass, plus levelling (450 BE a level from 2 to 5, 900 from 6 to 10), the first-week login rewards and champion shards β€” which you disenchant for 40% or unlock for 60% of the price.
Key takeaways
  • Five price tiers: 225 to 3,150 BE; most champions 2,400.
  • Prices halved on 5 March 2025 (patch 25.5) β€” no refunds when a price drops later.
  • Levels 2–10 give 6,300 BE; the first week's day 6 gives 6,300 more.
  • Shards: disenchant for 40%, unlock for 60%.
  • The Essence Emporium is a limited-time shop, not a permanent one.

Every way to earn Blue Essence in 2026

SourceHow much
The Battle Pass (free track)The main source β€” Riot says Blue Essence is mostly the Battle Pass. The 2026 Season 3 Act 1 free pass had 13,500 BE, 8 chests and keys and 4 champion capsules (Dot Esports).
Levelling up450 BE a level from 2 to 5, 900 a level from 6 to 10, smaller amounts later β€” 6,300 BE from level 2 to 10
First-week login rewards6,300 BE on day 6 for new accounts
Level 30A Glorious Champion Capsule
ChestsFrom Battle Passes and Honor; a chest costs 125 RP, chest + key 195 RP; chests only drop shards of champions worth 2,400 BE or more
Disenchanting shards40% of the champion's BE price

Champion mastery no longer pays Blue Essence or chests β€” that ended in 2024 and January 2025; the mastery guide covers what it gives now.

Champion shards: unlock or disenchant?

A champion shard (from capsules and chests) is a discounted unlock. Unlocking it costs 60% of the champion's Blue Essence price; disenchanting it gives you 40%. For a 2,400 BE champion that's 1,440 to unlock or 960 back β€” the official wiki's example. Riot kept disenchant values unchanged when it halved prices.

Unlock it if…

  • you'll play the champion
  • it's an expensive champion you'd buy anyway
  • you need champions for ranked (20 required)

Disenchant it if…

  • you own the champion already
  • you'll never play it
  • you're saving for a specific champion

The smartest unlock order

  1. Your main role's two or three champions.

Depth climbs. The easiest champions guide lists Riot's lowest-difficulty picks by role.

  2. Cheap champions to reach 20 for ranked.

Ranked needs 20 champions at level 30 β€” 225 and 675 BE champions get you there fast.

  3. A second role's pool.

    For when you're autofilled.

  4. Then the champions you enjoy.

Unlock the expensive ones with shards where you can β€” 60% instead of 100%.

  • 22,400-BE champions for the same

The Essence Emporium and chests

The Essence Emporium is a limited-time shop that changes every year β€” the 2026 mid-year edition ran 13 May to 10 June. It sells chromas, icons and other cosmetics for Blue Essence, so it's worth checking your balance before it opens. Chests come from Battle Passes and Honor, or from the store β€” a chest costs 125 RP and a chest with a key 195 RP β€” and only drop shards for champions worth 2,400 BE or more.
