Easiest LoL Champions for Beginners: Riot's Ratings by Role (2026)

The easiest League of Legends champions by Riot's own difficulty rating, sorted by role, the beginner picks we'd start with, the famous "easy" champions Riot rates harder, and how to unlock them cheaply.

Updated 2026-10-25 · 9 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • Riot rates difficulty 1–10
  • 2 champions rated 1
  • 24 rated 1 to 3
  • Garen is rated 5

League has more than 170 champions, and picking your first few is the decision that shapes your first hundred games. Most "easiest champion" lists are opinions. Riot, though, rates every champion's difficulty from 1 to 10 in its own game data — so this guide starts there: every champion Riot rates 1 to 3, sorted by role, the one beginner pick per role we'd start with, the famous "easy" champions Riot rates harder than you'd think, and how to unlock them cheaply. Checked 2026-10-25 against Riot's Data Dragon 16.21.1.

Short answer: by Riot's own rating the easiest champions are Miss Fortune (bot) and Morgana (support) — the only two rated 1 out of 10. Eight more are rated 2, including Darius, Malphite and Sett for top and Xin Zhao for jungle. For a first champion per role we'd pick Malphite (top), Amumu (jungle), Naafiri (mid), Miss Fortune (bot), Morgana (support).
Key takeaways
  • Riot rates difficulty 1–10 in its champion data — 24 champions sit at 1 to 3.
  • Difficulty 1: Miss Fortune and Morgana.
  • Garen is rated 5 and Annie 6 — simple to learn, but Riot rates them above Darius or Malphite.
  • Battle Training offers Ashe, Ryze or Garen; before level 11 there's a newer-player free rotation.
  • Cheapest champions cost 225 Blue Essence; most cost 2,400.

"Easy" champions Riot rates harder

Some champions everyone recommends to beginners score higher than you'd expect. That doesn't make them bad first picks — Garen is in Riot's own Battle Training — but they ask a little more:

Which role to start with

Bot or support

You learn the game next to a partner, with simple jobs: farm (bot) or protect and ward (support). Miss Fortune and Morgana are both here.

Top

An island lane where a tanky champion forgives mistakes — Malphite, Darius or Sett.

Mid

The shortest lane and the most map pressure; pick a simple champion like Naafiri while you learn when to roam.

Jungle

The most to learn — camps, timers, Smite and ganks. Most new players leave it for later; Amumu or Xin Zhao when you're ready.

How to get these champions cheaply

Before level 11, players get a special free champion rotation suited to newer players (it differs by region and changes occasionally), so you can try several before spending anything. Riot's Battle Training lets you choose between Ashe, Ryze and Garen. When you buy, Blue Essence goes a long way since Riot halved every price in 2025: the cheapest champions cost 225 BE, most cost 2,400 BE, and levelling from 2 to 10 alone gives 6,300 BE. The Blue Essence guide lists every price tier.

  • 2champions rated difficulty 1
  • 24champions rated 1 to 3
  • 225 BEthe cheapest champion tier
  • Level 11when the newer-player rotation ends

After your first champions

  1. Play one role and two or three champions.

Depth beats variety while you learn the map.

  2. Learn last-hitting.

The CS per minute guide shows what good farming looks like.

  3. Take Flash plus your role's spell.

    See summoner spells explained.

  4. Unlock ranked at level 30.

You'll need 20 champions — how to unlock ranked.
