- Entry 0–90 RP a match
- Top 10 of 20 earns it back
- Kills halve after the 8th
- +15% to +50% tier bonus
Every Apex Legends ranked match starts with a charge and ends with a score. Ranked Points (RP) are how the game keeps that score: you pay some to drop, you earn some for where your squad finishes and for the fights you take part in, and two bonuses reward you for beating stronger players and for finishing high again and again. This guide explains each part as EA Help describes it on 2 November 2026, works through what that means for real matches, and covers what Season 31 (3 November 2026) and Season 32 (early 2027) change. EA doesn't publish a points table for placement or kills, so you won't find invented numbers here, only the rules and the numbers EA does publish.
- The top half earns the entry back. A bottom-half finish without kills loses 10 to 90 RP, depending on your tier.
- Placement multiplies kills. The same kill is worth more in 2nd place than in 12th.
- After eight kills, each one counts half. Ranked rewards staying alive more than chasing a 20-bomb.
- Beating higher tiers pays: +15% per kill one tier up, rising to +50% four or more tiers up.
- Season 31 adds Challenger and Goliath entry costs; Season 32 makes kill and placement RP flat and team-wide.
Entry cost by tier
EA's rule is short: "Each Ranked match costs RP to enter, and you'll earn RP back if you place in the top half of a match." A lobby holds 20 squads, so the top half is a top-10 finish. The charge rises with your tier, which is why the same habits that climb you out of Silver can stall you in Platinum:
| Your tier | Entry per match | A 15th place with no kills |
|---|---|---|
| 0 RP | no change | |
| 10 RP | −10 RP | |
| 20 RP | −20 RP | |
| 38 RP | −38 RP | |
| 48 RP | −48 RP | |
| 65 RP | −65 RP | |
| 90 RP | −90 RP | |
| 90 RP | −90 RP |
The last column is the floor of a bad game: no placement RP, no kill RP, just the entry gone. Any kill or assist in that match softens it. Rookie costs nothing to play, so a new player can't lose RP there at all; higher up the charge adds up fast: in Diamond, eight bad games in a row cost 520 RP, more than half a division. The rank tiers and their RP sizes are in our Apex ranks guide.
Placement: the multiplier on everything
EA says only this about placement points: a higher finish earns more RP. It doesn't publish the table, and older tables floating around online come from earlier seasons with different rules, so treat any "1st place = X RP" number you see as out of date unless EA printed it this season.
What EA does publish makes placement the centre of the system. Two of its rules hang on it:
- The top half earns your entry back. Finishing 10th instead of 11th is the difference between paying for the match and not.
- "The higher you place, the more each kill is worth." A kill isn't a fixed number of RP; its value is scaled by where your squad ends up. Three kills in a squad that finishes 2nd are worth more than the same three kills in a squad that finishes 12th.
So in ranked, a fight you win but die after rarely pays as well as it feels. A third party that wipes your squad in 14th place turns every kill you took into a low-value kill and leaves your entry unpaid.
Kills, assists and participation
EA counts three kinds of contribution, and all of them use the placement-scaled kill value:
- A kill or an assist counts as one kill. For RP, helping to down an enemy is worth as much as landing the last shot.
- Participation counts as half a kill. "If your team kills another player without you doing any damage to that player, you'll earn half a kill."
- Kills after your eighth count half. "If you have more than eight kills, the value of each kill, assist, and participation you make is halved."
The halving changes the maths of a big game. Twelve kills don't count as twelve: they count as eight full kills plus four halves, the value of ten. Combine that with placement scaling and the lesson is clear: in ranked, the RP is in staying alive with a healthy kill count, not in hunting a 20-bomb. That's also why many players chase the 4K and 20-kill badges in public matches instead; see the 4K and 20-kill badge guide.
Two things earn nothing at all. "You don't get RP for heals or revives—only assists and kills." A Support who keeps a squad alive still gets rewarded, but through the placement that survival buys, not through a revive counter.
Two bonuses: higher tiers and top-five streaks
EA adds two bonuses on top of the base scoring. The first rewards beating players above you. It's added on top of the kill's final value, after placement scaling:
| Victim's tier compared with yours | Bonus on that kill | Example for a Silver player |
|---|---|---|
| 1 tier higher | +15% | |
| 2 tiers higher | +25% | |
| 3 tiers higher | +35% | |
| 4 or more tiers higher | +50% |
The second rewards consistency. Finish in the top five several matches in a row and each one after the first adds a flat bonus:
| Top-five finish in a row | 2nd | 3rd | 4th | 5th | 6th and later |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bonus RP | +10 | +20 | +30 | +40 | +40 |
Any finish outside the top five resets the streak. Five top-five finishes in a row are worth 10 + 20 + 30 + 40 = 100 RP of bonus on top of everything else, and every further one adds another 40. For a solo player who can't control the fights, a streak of safe top-five finishes is the steadiest RP there is.
Three matches, worked through
Without a public points table you can't predict your exact RP, but you can predict the direction. Three common matches for a
Platinum player, who pays 48 RP to enter:
- Hot drop, out in 17th with no kills.
Bottom half, so the entry isn't earned back and there's nothing to scale. Result: −48 RP, exactly.
- Hot drop, four kills, out in 13th.
Four kill values, but scaled down for a 13th-place finish, and no placement RP or entry back. Whether the kills cover the 48-RP entry depends on kill values EA doesn't publish.
- Quiet rotation, two kills, a top-five finish (the third in a row).
The entry comes back, placement pays, both kills are scaled for a top-five finish, and the streak adds +20 RP. This is the match that climbs.
If your recent games look more like the first two than the third, the fix is usually rotations and fight selection rather than aim; how to rank up in Apex covers the habits.
What changes in Seasons 31 and 32
Season 31: Challenger and Goliath entry costs
From 3 November 2026 the entry cost depends on the lobby as well as your tier. EA's Ranked Roadmap gives every lobby a Lobby Tier: the median of all squads' tiers. A squad two or more tiers below it plays as a Challenger with a lower entry cost; a squad two or more tiers above it plays as a Goliath with a higher one. The game shows the adjustment before the match. EA's example is a Gold lobby, where Bronze squads are Challengers and a Diamond squad is a Goliath. EA's roadmap shows the idea in an example picture but hadn't published the exact adjustments as rules when this page was checked, so don't trust a fixed number until the patch notes give one. The other Season 31 changes, Legend bans and three demotion shields, are in Season 31 ranked changes.
Season 32: flat RP and team kills
EA's plan for early 2027 rewrites this page. Kill and placement RP become flat values "with no multiplier linking them", so placement will stop scaling kills. Every player gets "full kill RP for every kill your team earns", and assists and participation go away. Entry costs will rise with every division rather than every tier. In the Open League (Iron to Emerald) kills are weighted slightly higher; in the Pro-Am League (Diamond to Grandmaster) placement is weighted higher. EA hasn't published the numbers yet: the Season 32 overhaul tracks what's confirmed.
Weekly Ranked Ladders: your five best results
Alongside your rank, Apex runs Weekly Ranked Ladders from Tuesday to Sunday. Each leaderboard holds up to 100 players grouped by hidden skill, and your score is the total of your five best RP results that week, so one bad game doesn't sink it. You need at least five ranked matches and cross-play turned on to take part. Each ladder sorts its players into four bands: the top 10%, 10–30%, 30–50% and the bottom half. Season 30's second split ran six ladders, the last from 27 October to 1 November 2026. EA says "Weekly Ladders are going away as of S32", so they have at most one more season to run.
Help with the climb
The RP rules explain why higher tiers take longer: bigger divisions and dearer entry. Our prices follow the same curve, division by division, from the engine checkout uses. Gold IV to Platinum IV is $21.24 today and Platinum IV to Diamond IV $40.32. Apex Legends boosting isn't open for orders yet: get the launch alert on the Apex Legends page. Boosting conflicts with EA's rules, which call account sharing and paid levelling by third-party sellers unauthorized; read the Risk Disclosure and is Apex boosting safe? first.
