20,000 20,000 CS Rating is where Premier turns pink β and for most players it's the line between "good" and "really good". It's also where many climbs stall: purple lobbies are full of players who are nearly there. This guide shows how rare 20k really is, how the rating behaves near the line, what separates purple players from pink ones, and what a boost to 20k costs and how long it takes if you'd rather skip the grind. Checked 2026-10-25.
- Top 11.8%: 20,000+ in the July 2026 Leetify sample; 32.5% are 15,000+.
- Colour lines every 5,000 β and promotion and relegation matches only happen there.
- Your expected gain or loss shows during the team intros; Valve publishes no formula.
- Win rate is everything: at 50% you tread water; 55% climbs steadily.
- Season 5's pool is 7 maps β master three, be playable on the rest.

How the rating moves near 20,000
Valve doesn't publish how many points a win is worth, and it varies β you see your expected gain or loss during the team intros and at half-time. Two things Valve has said shape the climb near the line:
- Promotion and relegation matches only happen at colour boundaries β every 5,000 β so a match at 19,800 can be a promotion match into pink, and a loss at 20,100 can be a relegation match back to purple.
- Valve increased the possible win and loss amounts (10 October 2023) so that players move to their real level faster β a long winning streak climbs quickly, and so does a losing one.
The practical upshot: don't queue tilted near a colour line. A streak in either direction moves you further than the rating you see suggests.
What purple players fix to reach pink
- A three-map pool.
With picks and a random draw, you can't avoid every map β but you can get the maps you know into the draw. Master three of Ancient, Anubis, Cache, Dust II, Inferno, Mirage, Nuke.
- One role, played well.
Entry, support, lurk or AWP: know your positions on both sides of your three maps and stick to them.
- Trade every duel.
Purple rounds are lost to isolated deaths. Play in pairs and swing together.
- Economy discipline.
Buy and save as a team β the economy guide has the numbers.
- Review one demo a week.
Your deaths first. The four-pass demo review takes about half an hour.
- Warm up, then stop on two losses.
A 20-minute aim routine before queueing; two losses in a row ends the session.
How long it takes at your win rate
Because Valve's amounts vary, any games-per-colour figure is an estimate. What doesn't vary is the direction: at a 50% win rate your rating stays where it is, and the further above 50% you are, the faster you climb. If you're winning about half your purple games, the gap to pink is skill, not luck β fix one habit from the list above at a time. The rank-up time calculator turns your rating and win rate into an estimate.
