- 5 to 7 players a team
- 100 a win, 25 a loss
- Open 1 to Invite
- PC only
Premier is VALORANT's team competition: a fixed roster, a division, weekly matches on a schedule and a playoff at the end of every stage β and, for the best teams, a route into the official Challengers leagues. It is also the part of the game with the most rules people get wrong. This guide sets out how Premier works on 31 October 2026, from Riot's own support articles and the 2026 patch notes: who can play, how to build a team, zones and divisions from Open to Invite, weekly matches and Premier Score, the playoffs, the 2026 stage calendar and what Contender and Invite add on top.
- Eligibility is simple: an SMS-verified account, one ranked placement in its lifetime and no current ban or restriction.
- Score, not standings, gets you into the playoff β 100 a win, 25 a loss, and every played match counts.
- Your division comes from your top five players' MMR and locks after your first match of the stage.
- No relegation for results: teams move up by winning a playoff; a lower placement only follows roster or rank changes.
- Contender needs Contender Eligibility: an Immortal 3 peak, an Elite 5 playoff match or a match for a Contender or Invite team.
What Premier is
Premier runs in stages that roughly match VALORANT's Acts, named after them β V26A1 for the first Act of 2026, V26A2 for the second, and so on. Each stage has weeks of Weekly matches, which build your team's Premier Score, and ends with a Playoff Tournament for every team that reached the target. Your team only ever meets teams in the same division and the same zone, and the matchmaker looks for opponents of a similar team MMR inside that division. Riot's 2026 patch notes list every Premier change under "PC only".
The mode has its own hub in the client with your team page, standings and schedule, and the patch 13.06 and 13.08 features β Performance Score and Map Rating β count Premier matches as well as Competitive ones.
Who can play and how to build a team
Riot's support pages set the rules every player has to meet for the whole stage:
- SMS verification on your Riot account, kept on throughout Premier.
- At least one ranked placement completed in your account's lifetime.
- Good standing: no current ban or restriction, AFK restrictions included. A ban during the stage benches you for the rest of it β you stay on the roster but can't play β and Riot won't lift bans for Premier.
- One roster at a time. You can join or switch teams during a stage, and leave at any time except while your team is in queue.
The player who creates the team is the Team Owner: they set the name (5β15 characters), the tag (1β5 characters), logo and colours, invite and remove players and can appoint one Team Captain. The name and tag can't be changed after creation β only by deleting and re-creating the team, ideally before its first match. A roster holds 5 to 7 players, and after your first match you can't add a player whose MMR would move the team to another division. To earn the team's Premier Crest a player needs two Weekly matches or one Playoff match with it; leaving costs you the team tag and plating, but participation rewards and the Champion's Aura stay with you.
Divisions and zones
| Division | Levels | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Invite | β | The top teams can earn a Challengers League spot |
| Contender | β | Contender Eligible players only after the first match |
| Elite | 1β5 | Elite 5 playoff teams earn Contender Eligibility |
| Advanced | 1β5 | |
| Intermediate | 1β5 | |
| Open | 1β5 |
Your starting division comes from the average Competitive MMR of your top five players β weighted toward your best player if the gap is large β and is shown as a Provisional Division that updates as the roster or zone changes. After your first match of the stage it locks. Teams move up by winning their division's playoff, which lands them at least one level higher in the next stage (if they play it). Riot does not demote teams for losing; a lower division only follows roster changes or players' ranked results.
The zone you pick when creating the team is your server area: you only play teams in your own division and zone, and the zone locks after your first match. Contender and Invite teams don't pick one β they are placed automatically on promotion.
Weekly matches and Premier Score
A normal stage asks for up to 2 Weekly matches a week for 7 weeks, plus one more week if you reach the playoff β Riot shortened some 2026 stages to five or six weeks. The rules that matter:
- Best of one on the weekly map. Each week uses one map, and the weekly map resets on Tuesday. Two timeouts each, one more in overtime.
- Overtime is win by two with sides swapping every round; after three overtime sets a single sudden-death round decides it.
- One-hour queue windows in the evening of your zone's match days β Riot says most Weekly matches happen around 7 PM local time, between 7 and 9. Queue early: the matchmaker aims to find an opponent within 8 minutes.
- Two Weekly matches per player per week. The limit follows the player, not the team, so switching teams after playing two doesn't give you more that week.
- 100 points for a win, 25 for a loss. Playoff matches award no points, and practice matches in their own windows count for nothing.
The playoffs
Only Premier Score decides who qualifies β Riot's support page says standings have no bearing on it. Higher scores get better seeds. The bracket in each division holds up to 8 teams (as few as two, depending on who is queued when it starts), it is single elimination and every match is best of one, with a map pick-and-ban: teams take turns banning until one map is left, and the team that didn't choose it picks the side.
Open to Elite
The whole playoff runs on one day, match after match, with at least five minutes' rest between them. No substitutes: the five who play the first match play the whole tournament.
Contender and Invite
Playoffs run over several days with a notification 15 minutes before each match. Rounds one and two are best of one, the final is best of three, and you can sub players from your roster between rounds.
After the playoff, standings are ordered by playoff result first, then Premier Score, matches played and round difference. Results lock 24 hours after the playoffs end.
The 2026 Premier stages
Riot announces each stage in the patch notes of the Act that opens it, and in 2026 it changed the length and the score target from stage to stage:
| Stage | First matches | Length | Premier Score to qualify | Playoffs |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| V26A1 | 14 Jan | β | β | β |
| V26A2 | 18 Mar | 6 weeks | 500 | 26 Apr |
| V26A3 | 6 May | 6 weeks (Contender & Invite) | β | 20β21 Jun |
| V26A4 | 1 Jul | β | 600 | 16 Aug |
| V26A5 | 18 Aug | 5 weeks | 450 | 20 Sep |
"β" means the patch notes didn't state it. Riot's notes for patches 13.08 and 13.09 announced no Premier changes; the current stage's dates and target are in the Premier hub.
The arithmetic is kind to teams that turn up. If you play every match, a seven-week stage of 14 matches with a 600 target needs only 4 wins; the six-week, 500-point stage needed 3 wins in 12 matches, and the five-week, 450-point stage 3 wins in 10. Turning up matters more than a winning streak: every missed match is at least 25 points you can't get back, and joining late, Riot warns, may leave you short of a qualifying score.
Contender, Invite and the road to Challengers
The two top divisions work differently. Every player on a Contender or Invite team needs Contender Eligibility, earned in the current or previous stage by any one of these:
- playing a Weekly or Playoff match for a Contender or Invite team;
- reaching a peak Competitive rank of Immortal 3 or higher;
- playing in the Elite 5 playoff tournament.
A team with five Contender Eligible players is guaranteed a Contender placement, and while it is still Provisional a Contender team may invite anyone; after its first match only eligible players can join, and Invite teams can only ever add eligible players. Expect one evening a week with two Weekly matches; a team left without an opponent gets a bye β a win and 100 points but no round score. The top teams of each Invite Division earn the chance to enter a Challengers League β the step from Premier into Riot's official esports circuit.
How we can help
Premier is played by your team on your own accounts, and that is how it should stay: we don't sell Premier matches, and a boosted rank is no shortcut to Contender. Riot penalises rank manipulation with suspensions and rank and reward reversions, and banned more than 76,000 accounts for it between 18 August and 1 October 2026. Boosting of any kind is against Riot's terms β read the safety guide before you buy anything.
