The Venomous Abyss Raid Guide: Bosses, Difficulties and Loot (2026)

The Midnight Season 2 raid boss by boss: all eight encounters and their tier tokens, item levels on every difficulty, the Raid Finder wings, Ahead of the Curve and Cutting Edge, and how to get ready.

Updated 2026-10-31 Β· 9 min read Β· by the BoostPirate crew
  • 8 bosses, last: Ula'tek
  • Heroic: 305–315
  • Mythic: up to 344
  • Raid Finder: 4 wings

The Venomous Abyss is the raid of World of Warcraft: Midnight Season 2 β€” eight bosses under the Coiled Isle, ending with the serpent matriarch Ula'tek. This guide covers it as of 31 October 2026: every boss in order with the tier token it drops, the item levels on each difficulty, how Raid Finder splits it into wings, the achievements and rewards, and how to get your character ready.

Short answer: The Venomous Abyss opened on 18 August 2026 (19 August 2026 in Europe) with eight bosses, from Nek'zali the Soulcoiler to Ula'tek. It drops 279–289 in Raid Finder, 292–302 on Normal, 305–315 on Heroic and 318–324 on Mythic, where the last two bosses drop 344. Heroic Ula'tek gives Ahead of the Curve, Mythic Ula'tek Cutting Edge.
Key takeaways
  • Eight bosses, four wings: Raid Finder splits them into pairs that don't follow the kill order.
  • Five tier tokens plus an omni-token: Ula'tek drops the Slumbering Coil Curio, which buys any slot.
  • Mythic's last two bosses drop 344 β€” ten item levels above the Myth track's 334 ceiling.
  • Raid Finder needs item level 273; Story Mode opened a week after the raid.
  • The Glory of the Venomous Raider meta achievement awards the Crimson Venomfang mount.

Where it is and when it opened

The raid sits on the Coiled Isle, the zone patch 12.1 added on 11 August 2026; in the story you descend into the Vaults of Atal'Utek after Zul'jan, guided by the spirit of Malacrass, frees the forgotten broods of Ula'tek. Normal, Heroic and Mythic opened together in the first week of Season 2; Story Mode and the Raid Finder wings followed week by week:

Week ofWhat opened
18 AugNormal, Heroic, Mythic and Raid Finder wing 1
25 AugStory Mode and Raid Finder wing 2
1 SepRaid Finder wing 3
8 SepRaid Finder wing 4

Normal and Heroic scale with your group, from 10 to 30 players, so a guild can bring whoever shows up. Mythic is the hardest difficulty and the one the world-first race and Cutting Edge are built on.

The eight bosses

Blizzard's raid post lists the encounters in this order. The tier token column is the slot each boss's token buys.

Tokens are shared by armour type: one for mages, priests and warlocks, one for demon hunters, druids, monks and rogues, one for evokers, hunters and shamans, and one for death knights, paladins and warriors. Ula'tek's omni-token is the flexible one β€” trade it in for whichever tier slot you're missing.

Difficulties and item levels

Each difficulty drops on its own track, and the item level rises in four steps through the raid: the first boss; the second and fourth; the third, fifth and sixth; and the last two.

Two numbers stand out. Mythic's last two bosses β€” The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek β€” drop 344, the highest item level in the season and ten above what crests can reach. And the Great Vault's raid row (2, 4 and 6 bosses) pays one difficulty up: Heroic kills put a 318 item in the vault, Mythic kills a 334 β€” or 344 from the last two.

Raid Finder wings and Story Mode

Raid Finder needs item level 273 to queue and splits the raid into four wings of two bosses. The pairs mix early and late encounters, so the wing order is not the kill order:

Wings 1 and 2

The Soulcoilers: Nek'zali the Soulcoiler and The Twin Fangs.
The Essence of Venom: Entombed Sentinels and Vashnik the Malignant.

Wings 3 and 4

The Serpent Warren: The Lost Explorers and Sszorak.
The Tomb of Ula'tek: The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek.

Story Mode arrived the week of 25 August β€” the easiest way to see the raid's story through to Ula'tek.

Achievements and rewards

  • Ahead of the Curve: Ula'tek β€” kill Ula'tek on Heroic or Mythic before the next raid tier opens.
  • Cutting Edge: Ula'tek β€” kill her on Mythic before the next tier; Mythic Ula'tek also gives the title "Venom's End".
  • Hall of Fame β€” the first 200 guilds worldwide to kill Mythic Ula'tek get the title "Famed Slayer of Ula'tek".
  • Primeval Skyfriend β€” the mount that drops from Mythic Ula'tek.
  • Glory of the Venomous Raider β€” eight boss achievements (Normal or higher) for the Crimson Venomfang mount. The Ula'tek one, "No Egg Scramble", also gives the Ula'took pet.
  • Season feats β€” Heroic Ula'tek counts for the Serpent Scion feat and Mythic Ula'tek for Sssensational!, the same ones 2,000 and 2,500 Mythic+ rating give.

Beyond the Abyss: Kith'ix and the Tidebound Grotto

Season 2 has two more group bosses. The Tidebound Grotto is a lair β€” an instanced world boss, Nymrissa Wavecaller, for 15 to 25 players with Normal, Heroic and Mythic modes; on Mythic she drops the same 318 as the raid's first boss. Patch 12.1.5 added The Unbinding of Kith'ix, a one-boss raid fought beside Lady Liadrin on Story, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and a flexible 15–25-player Mythic.

How to get ready

  1. Reach the queue.

Item level 273 for Raid Finder: Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons get you there fast.

  2. Clear Normal for a base.

292–302 gear and your first tier tokens.

  3. Push Heroic for Ahead of the Curve.

305–315 drops, a 318 vault slot and the Serpent Scion feat.

  4. Know the last two fights.

The Coiled Altar and Ula'tek decide most nights β€” and on Mythic they drop the 344 gear.

  5. Use the vault and bonus rolls.

A Nebulous Voidcore spent on a raid boss is an extra chance at the item you need.
