WoW Midnight Leveling Guide: 80–90 and 1–90 Routes and Pace (2026)

How to level to 90 in World of Warcraft: Midnight — the 80–90 campaign route through Quel'Thalas, the 1–80 path for a new character, the XP buffs that stack, how alts skip the story, and how long each stretch takes.

Updated 2026-10-31 · 9 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • Level cap 90
  • 80 → 90: about 4.96M XP
  • Warband XP bonus up to 25%
  • Voidstorm last, at 88–90

Midnight raised World of Warcraft's level cap to 90 when it launched on 2 March 2026, and the cap hasn't moved since — Season 2 and patch 12.1.5 are endgame updates, not new levels. This guide shows both ways to get there: the 80–90 campaign for a character that is already 80, and the full 1–90 path for a new one, with the buffs that speed it up, how alts skip the story and an honest look at the pace.

Short answer: from 80 to 90 you play Midnight's campaign: Eversong Woods first, then Zul'Aman, Harandar and Arator's Journey in any order, and Voidstorm last at 88–90 — about 4.96 million XP in all. A new character levels 1–10 in a starting zone, 10–70 in any older expansion through Chromie Time and 70–80 in The War Within. Warband Mentored Leveling adds up to 25% XP, and alts can skip the story once one character has finished it.
Key takeaways
  • Level cap 90 since 2 March 2026; Season 2 changed the endgame, not the levels.
  • Voidstorm is always last — the three middle paths can go in any order.
  • 1–80 got much shorter: Midnight cut the XP for it by about 43%, most of it between 70 and 80.
  • Warband Mentored Leveling adds 5% XP per achievement, up to 25% from 80 to 90.
  • Skyriding works from the start of Midnight, so travel between quests is fast from level 80.

The 1–90 route at a glance

Every stretch of the climb has one sensible place to be. Chromie Time lets a new character pick an older expansion for 10–70 — Dragonflight is the default if you don't choose — and from 70 the game hands you to The War Within before Midnight takes over at 80.

The early levels ask slightly more XP than before, but the total from 1 to 80 dropped from about 5.6 million to 3.2 million XP in Midnight's patch 12.0 — and the deepest cut sits in the 70–80 War Within range, which now goes by quickly.

80 to 90: the Midnight campaign

The story opens on the Isle of Quel'Danas, where the Sunwell is under attack, and moves to Eversong Woods, the starting zone of the expansion. From there you choose: Zul'Aman, Harandar and Arator's Journey — a questline rather than a zone — can be played in any order. Voidstorm opens once the other paths are done and takes you from 88 to 90.

The main campaign alone gets a first character close to 90; a few world quests finish the job. Side quests and dungeons are optional. One delve is part of the story — The Shadow Enclave — and its first-time quest gives a good chunk of XP, but repeating delves while leveling pays little. Midnight's dungeons unlock as you level through the 80s, so a queue between quests is a fair change of pace.

First character

Play the campaign in order: it unlocks the zones, the story and the max-level content that hangs off it. Expect to spend most of your time questing, with world quests to top up the last level.

Alts

Once the main campaign is finished, alts can skip it in Adventure Mode: they start at the Sanctum of Light in Silvermoon, pick their own zone order and level through world quests and events instead.

The XP buffs that stack

Midnight has no single big catch-up button, but several bonuses add up, and most of them are free:

  • Warband Mentored Leveling — a Warband-wide buff that grows by 5% with each of its achievements: up to 25% from 1 to 80 (The War Within series) and up to 25% from 80 to 90 (the Midnight series).
  • War Mode — an extra XP bonus for questing with world PvP switched on, if you don't mind being attacked.
  • Darkmoon Faire — its XP buff is worth picking up when the Faire is in town.
  • First-time quests — the campaign's own XP is the backbone, and first-time delve quests such as The Shadow Enclave's add a good chunk.

Blizzard also ran timed events in Season 1, such as a Timewalking event with its own XP buff; none is part of the permanent rules, so check the in-game calendar before a long session.

How long it takes

Blizzard doesn't publish an average, and the honest answer depends on how much story you watch. A few fixed points help:

  • XP: 80 to 90 needs 4,963,065 XP in all, from 403,725 for level 80 to 592,980 for level 89.
  • The floor: a speed-runner's 80–90 route with Warband Mentors, War Mode and the Darkmoon Faire buff took 98 minutes in June 2026 — a record with every trick, not a normal pace.
  • A first character reading the story, flying between hubs and stopping for the odd dungeon takes several sessions; alts on the Adventure Mode route go much faster.
  • Our boosters' pace: 1–80 in ~4 h, 80–90 in ~6 h, the full 1–90 in about ten hours of play. Today an 80 → 90 order quotes at $15.75 with delivery in about 1 day.

What to do when you hit 90

Level 90 is where Season 2 starts. Heroic dungeons need item level 266 to queue, and Mythic 0 drops 292 gear and resets daily — the quickest base for a fresh character. From there:

  1. Gear up.

Heroic and Mythic 0 dungeons, then keys and Delves — the gearing guide has every item level.

  2. Open Delves.

Bountiful Delves and the higher tiers are a solo-friendly gear source — see the Delves guide.

  3. Start keys.

Time a +10 in each dungeon for the teleports and a 318 vault slot — the Mythic+ guide lists the rewards.

  4. Raid.

Raid Finder for The Venomous Abyss needs item level 273; Normal and Heroic come next.
