- 9 new five-player dungeons
- Levels 13 to 60
- 6 in Eastern Kingdoms, 3 in Kalimdor
- Dungeon quests carry the XP
World of Warcraft: Forever adds nine five-player dungeons to the original ones β new places in old zones, spread from level 13 to the cap. This guide lists every one with Blizzard's level range and location, explains which need a trip into enemy territory or an attunement, what changed about dungeon XP and loot, and how the dungeons feed into Legacy Challenges and the raids on 9 December.
- Nine new five-player dungeons for levels 13β60: six in the Eastern Kingdoms, three in Kalimdor.
- Two start in enemy cities: Hall of Thanes under Ironforge and Ruins of Lordaeron above the Undercity.
- City of Dalaran needs an attunement from Southshore or Tarren Mill.
- Two are for level 60: Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace β your new pre-raid stops.
- XP sits in the quests β a first run with a full log is worth several repeats.
All nine new dungeons at a glance
| Dungeon | Levels | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Hall of Thanes | 13β18 | beneath Ironforge, Dun Morogh (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | 15β20 | ruins above the Undercity, Tirisfal Glades (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| Excavation Site | 24β29 | above Whelgar's Excavation, Wetlands (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| City of Dalaran | 28β33 | Alterac Mountains (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| The Drowned City | 35β40 | off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| Krol'dok Stronghold | 40β45 | the Riverglades (Eastern Kingdoms) |
| Alcaz Prison | 48β53 | Alcaz Island, Dustwallow Marsh (Kalimdor) |
| Blackmaw Hold | 55β60 | behind a long-sealed gate in Azshara (Kalimdor) |
| Shaper's Terrace | 58β60 | northern hills of Un'Goro Crater (Kalimdor) |
These ranges are from Blizzard's dungeon preview of 20 October. Krol'dok Stronghold was first listed as 40β55; Blizzard's community manager Kaivax corrected it to 40β45. Blizzard hasn't published boss counts for the new dungeons β only that Blackmaw Hold has several routes and bosses and City of Dalaran lets groups choose between paths.
The Eastern Kingdoms: six new dungeons
Hall of Thanes (13β18) lies beneath Ironforge in Dun Morogh β the resting place of the dwarven kings, broken into by intruders thought to be Dark Iron dwarves. The Alliance walks in from Ironforge; Horde groups have to travel deep into Alliance land.
Ruins of Lordaeron (15β20) is the mirror image: the ruins above the Undercity in Tirisfal Glades, where the Forsaken are reclaiming the city and a necromancer is gathering power. Easy for the Horde, a long trip for the Alliance.
Excavation Site (24β29) sits above Whelgar's Excavation in the Wetlands, near Thelgen Rock and Dun Algaz β strange mist, flashes of light, titan constructs out of control and dangerous wildlife.
City of Dalaran (28β33) stands in its original home in the Alterac Mountains. Its protective barrier has fallen, enchantments are backfiring and constructs run loose. Groups enter through the sewers once they've earned the Kirin Tor's trust, and inside they choose between several paths and encounters.
The Drowned City (35β40) is a troll city risen from the sea off Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol. You dive to find the entrance; the dungeon is open-air, and its weather turns from mist and rain into a full storm before the last fight. Trolls and naga roam the streets, and a pirate ship lies wrecked nearby.
Krol'dok Stronghold (40β45) is an ogre fortress in the Riverglades, the big new contested zone β workshops, camps and guarded passages. Follow the ogre outrunners' trail to find it.
Kalimdor: three new dungeons
Alcaz Prison (48β53) on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow Marsh has finally opened its doors. Inside, the Defias Brotherhood and the naga are at war β and King Varian Wrynn is rumoured to be held there.
Blackmaw Hold (55β60) is a furbolg city behind a long-sealed gate in Azshara, where the Blackmaw clan fights a corruption spreading through its groves and tunnels. Blizzard calls it a substantial max-level adventure with several routes and bosses, and its depths connect to the Barrow Deeps raid, one of whose entrances runs through Blackmaw Hold.
Shaper's Terrace (58β60) is a titan facility in the northern hills of Un'Goro Crater β dinosaurs, tar pits and powerful crystals. You gather power crystals across Un'Goro and use them on the terrace's consoles.
Getting in: faction, attunement and travel
- Hall of Thanes and Ruins of Lordaeron
Each sits in the other faction's backyard. On a PvP ruleset, travel as a group and expect company; on Normal it is just a longer walk.
- City of Dalaran
Alliance: "An Alarming Request" from Emissary Jacques in Southshore. Horde: "Key to the City" and "Prison Break-In" from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill. Start it on your way through Hillsbrad so the group is ready at 28.
- The Drowned City
The entrance is under water off the Stranglethorn coast β a water-breathing potion or spell makes the search calmer.
- Shaper's Terrace
Collect the power crystals in Un'Goro before you form the group; the terrace's consoles use them.
XP and loot: what changed
Experience
Developer Kris Zierhut: XP from killing dungeon monsters was brought "way down", while dungeon quests give "much, much, much higher" XP. Your first run with every quest is a big jump; running the same dungeon again gives little. Pick up the quests before you go.
Loot
Blizzard re-examined every dungeon drop and added hundreds of new ones. Unique boss items are now blue, some bosses drop Advanced Blueprint recipes, and a bind-on-pickup green or blue grants its appearance to everyone eligible in the group when it's looted.
Dungeons and raids also drop the high-end camping items β anything that needs 140 or more profession skill β so crafters have a reason to come back at 60.
Dungeons and Legacy Challenges
Three of the 65 Legacy Challenges are dungeon challenges: defeat the final boss of every dungeon for levels 15β25, every one for 26β45 and every one for 46β60 β one Legacy Point each, shared across your account. They include the original dungeons as well as the new ones, so keep a list as you level. Our Legacy Challenges guide has all 65.
Running them well
- Arrive at the bottom of the range with the quests. That's where a new dungeon pays the most.
- Use the dungeon as a waypoint on your route β our leveling guide builds around them.
- At 60, gear up in Blackmaw Hold and Shaper's Terrace alongside the original level-60 dungeons before the raids open on 9 December β see the raids guide.
- Bring a tank and a healer you trust. The new dungeons are Forever's own β nobody has years of practice on them, and a wiped pull costs more than a slow one.
Help with the dungeons
- A run with you inside: Forever dungeon runs (from $18.50 a run) β any of the nine, every boss and quest.
- The levels between them: Forever power leveling.
- Everything before 9 December: the raid-ready bundle with ten dungeon runs.
- Be clear-eyed: piloted orders share your login, which Blizzard's terms don't allow; a dungeon run with you in the group doesn't need it.
