SoD Scarlet Enclave Guide (2026): Phase 8 Raid, Bosses and New Avalon

Season of Discovery ended its run of phases with a full raid made just for the season instead of rebuilt from 2004. Phase 8 took players to Tyr's Hand in the Eastern Plaguelands for the Scarlet Enclave, a disguise hub in New Avalon and the Ashbringer. This guide covers the raid and its eight bosses, what else the phase brought, how to get ready for it, and where SoD stands on 31 October 2026.

What Phase 8 brought

Patch 1.15.7 opened Phase 8 on 8 April 2025. If you finished the Phase 7 quest Scarlet Activities, Leonid Bartholomew the Revered at Light's Hope Chapel offers Unrest at Tyr's Hand, which branches into the phase's questlines. Alongside the raid, the phase added:

• New Avalon, a Scarlet Crusade town with a bank, a neutral auction house and an alchemy lab, where PvP combat is blocked.
• New recipes for every crafting profession — eight armour recipes each for the armour crafts, plus gadgets, weapon enchants, a healing potion and two cooking recipes.
• Cheaper old tiers: Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas tier items cost about half as much, and Karazhan Crypts no longer needs its introduction questline.
• No world buffs in battlegrounds — they can't be taken in or used there any more.

The Scarlet Enclave raid

The raid sits at Tyr's Hand in the far south-east of the Eastern Plaguelands — the area that became the death knight starting zone in Wrath of the Lich King. Its entrance is near the Scarlet Base Camp west of Tyr's Hand. A splinter of the Scarlet Crusade loyal to Dathrohan has seized the Enclave, and you fight through it in this order:

There is one difficulty, tuned for groups in Naxxramas gear, and the weekly clear gives a new eight-piece set for every class — Scarlet-themed and built around SoD's specs. Blizzard has softened the raid since launch: trash health was cut the day after it opened, and from June 2025 a raid-wide buff added 5% damage, healing and health, rising week by week to 25%. A guild that bounced off it in 2025 will find it much friendlier now.

New Avalon and the disguise

New Avalon is the phase's quest hub, and you get in by pretending to be a Crusader. Complete Gathering Intelligence from Scarlet Inquisitor Caldoran at the Scarlet Base Camp to unlock the New Avalon quest and a Scarlet Insignia, then combine the insignia with four crafted disguise pieces — Blacksmiths, Leatherworkers and Tailors make them. In disguise most residents treat you as one of their own and some hand out quests for new recipes, from bigger bags to feasts. The Scarlet Bloodhounds see through it and attack.

Each week Bryon Steelblade, the Scarlet Quartermaster, asks you to craft or donate equipment for a Scarlet Junkbox. Junkboxes hold Tarnished Undermine Reals, materials and Jostled Chalice Fragments; enough fragments make a Crusader's Chalice, which you trade with disguise pieces for tier set pieces — a way to fill the set outside the raid.

The Ashbringer questline

Phase 8's legendary is the Ashbringer, the two-handed sword Classic players chased as a rumour for years. A boss in the Enclave can drop the Ruined Lightforge Blade, which starts the questline; it's open to Warriors, Paladins and Hunters. The questline opened with the raid on 10 April 2025. If your guild runs a loot council, agree early who gets the blade — only those three classes can take the quest, so it shouldn't go to anyone else.

Getting ready for the Enclave

1. Reach 60 with your runes.

   SoD's class runes are the season's identity; a 60 without its key runes is a weaker raider than any gear can fix.

2. Gear through Naxxramas first.

   The raid is tuned for that level, and Phase 8 halved the cost of Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas tier items.

3. Do Unrest at Tyr's Hand.

   Not required to enter, but the questlines are what Blizzard recommends first, and they lead to New Avalon.

4. Start the Junkbox weekly.

   Chalice fragments add up to tier pieces even in weeks your raid misses a boss.

5. Bring twenty who know the fights.

   The raid is tuned for twenty, and up to forty can enter — extra players help, but the mechanics still have to be played.

Every earlier raid is still open, so a fresh 60 can gear from Molten Core upward before the Enclave.

Is SoD still worth playing in 2026?

Blizzard said in May 2025 that it had "made the decision to slow down" on Season of Discovery to start its next major project. Its Classic team's newest game, World of Warcraft: Forever, opens on 4 November 2026, 23:00 UTC. The original plan had Naxxramas and Karazhan Crypts as SoD's last update; the Scarlet Enclave was an extra. Blizzard also said it has no plans to shut the SoD realms down and hopes they run like Classic Era for a long time. So SoD in late 2026 is a finished game: every phase open, no new content coming, and a final raid that is friendlier than it was at launch.
