Dota 2 Ranked Requirements (2026): 100 Hours, Phone and Party Rules

What you need to play ranked Dota 2: 100 hours, a unique phone number and no Low Priority, the party rules, Ranked Roles and Role Queue Games after the July 2026 change, and a fix for every blocked queue.

Updated 2026-11-02 · 9 min read · by the BoostPirate crew
  • 100 hours played
  • A unique phone number
  • No Low Priority in the party
  • Up to 3 regions

A greyed-out ranked button usually has one of three causes, and a party that won't queue has a few more. This guide lists every rule that decides whether you can play ranked Dota 2 as it stands on 2 November 2026: the 100 hours, the phone number, Low Priority, the party rules, Ranked Roles and Role Queue Games after Valve's July 2026 change, and regions. A quick-fix table at the end matches each symptom to its cause. Where a rule comes from a community wiki rather than from Valve, we say so.

Short answer: To play ranked Dota 2 you need 100 hours played and a unique phone number linked to your Steam account, and you can't be in Low Priority. A party can queue ranked only if every member meets those rules and the MMR gap between members stays within Valve's cap. A party with an Immortal plays at the Immortal's level. Above 8,500 MMR, ranked is solo only and needs a registered official name.
Key takeaways
  • 100 hours plus a unique phone number unlock ranked.
  • One Low Priority player blocks the whole party from ranked.
  • Ranked parties have an MMR-gap cap (Valve doesn't publish the number), and an Immortal lifts the whole party to their level.
  • Ranked is queued by position. Since 1 July 2026 a solo player must tick at least one high-demand role to avoid spending a Role Queue Game.
  • You can queue up to three regions at once.

The ranked checklist

100 hours played

A new account can play unranked matchmaking from day one, but ranked waits until the account has 100 hours played. The rule has changed shape over the years: community wikis list Profile Level 13, then Experience Trophy level 50, then Profile Level 20, and now 100 hours, without dates for each switch. Whatever the form, the idea has stayed the same: a new account plays a while before ranked opens.

We couldn't find an official list of which modes count toward the 100 hours, so if the button is still locked, check the hours the client shows rather than your own estimate. Use the time well: learn two or three heroes for one position (our beginner heroes guide lists the 55 Valve rates simplest) and read Turbo vs ranked before you rely on Turbo habits.

The phone number

Each ranked account needs a phone number linked to its Steam account, and the number must be unique: one number can't unlock ranked on two accounts. Community wikis add a waiting rule: once a number is removed from an account, it can't be used on any account for three months, so think twice before moving a number between accounts.

The rule sits next to Valve's wider stance on alternate accounts. On 1 September 2023 Valve "permanently banned 90,000 smurf accounts", defined smurfs as accounts used "to avoid playing at the correct MMR", among other reasons, and said it traced each one back to its main account, where penalties range "from temporary adjustments to behavior scores to permanent account bans". A second account used to play below your real level is exactly what that policy targets. More in is Dota 2 boosting bannable?

Low Priority blocks the whole party

Low Priority is Valve's penalty queue, usually after abandons or a falling behaviour score. Community wikis describe it as Single Draft only, matched only with other Low Priority players, with slower queues. While you're in it, you can't queue ranked, and neither can any party you're in, so one friend's abandon can stop a five-stack's ranked night.

You get out by winning the number of Low Priority games the client shows, usually one to five. Valve doesn't publish a table of lengths. The causes, the behaviour score and how to stay out are in our Low Priority and behaviour score guide.

Party rules

A ranked party only queues when every member passes the checklist. On top of that:

  • The MMR-gap cap. Valve limits how far apart party members' MMR can be. It doesn't publish the number, and the community figures disagree with each other, so we don't quote one. If the game refuses a party that otherwise qualifies, the gap is the likely reason.
  • A party with an Immortal. Community wikis say every member is rated at the Immortal's level, and Immortals are matched only with Immortal or Divine players. Great for a Divine friend, brutal for a Legend one.
  • 8,500 MMR and above. Since 19 March 2025 players above 8,500 can't queue ranked as a party at all, and need a registered official name to queue ranked solo. Unranked parties are unchanged.

The party rules are also why a duo booster has to play from an account inside the same limits. The Immortal side is covered in our Immortal and leaderboard guide.

Can I queue ranked in Dota 2? A five-step check: 100 hours played, a unique phone number on the Steam account (a removed number waits three months per community wikis), Low Priority on you or anyone in the party, a party inside Valve’s unpublished MMR-gap cap, and above 8,500 MMR an official name with solo ranked only, ending in queue ranked with your positions and up to three regions; a Role Queue Games panel: up to 60 stored, 4 for a solo all-roles search, 2 each in a party of 2, 1 each in a party of 3, none in a party of 5 (community wikis), and since 1 July 2026 a solo player needs at least one high-demand role ticked; and a note that a party with an Immortal is rated at the Immortal’s level

Ranked Roles and Role Queue Games

Ranked is queued by position: you tick the positions you're willing to play, from carry (pos 1) to hard support (pos 5), and the matchmaker builds teams around them. Your MMR is the same for every position. Our positions guide explains what each one does.

Role Queue Games are the credits that make the system work. By the community wikis' count:

  • +4a solo search with every role ticked
  • +2 eachin a party of two
  • +1 eachin a party of three; none in a party of five
  • 60the most you can store

You spend one when you queue without the high-demand roles, the positions the matchmaker is shortest of. Valve changed that rule on 1 July 2026: "Players no longer need to select both high-demand roles in order to not spend a Role Queue Game for Ranked Roles. Instead, solo players need to select at least one of the high-demand roles." Valve's note doesn't name the high-demand roles; players generally read them as the two support positions, but that's an inference, not Valve's wording.

Once you're in, play the role you queued. Community wikis say not doing so lowers your behaviour score, and Valve confirmed in March 2024 that the matchmaker weighs "an estimate of skill range and player behavior scores" when it builds games.

Regions and quick fixes

You can queue up to three matchmaking regions at once. More regions widen the pool of possible games, at the cost of playing some on a higher ping. When something still won't queue, match the symptom:

Help getting back into ranked

If Low Priority is what's in the way, our booster can win those games for you, priced per game from the same engine as checkout. Three Low Priority games are $9.05 today, and five calibration games on a new account $8.55. Neither replaces the 100 hours or the phone number: we only take accounts that already have ranked unlocked. Dota 2 boosting isn't open for orders yet: get the launch alert on the Dota 2 page.

Know the rules first. The Steam Subscriber Agreement (updated 10 September 2026) forbids sharing your account or charging others to use it, and in December 2023 Valve game-banned accounts "shared with other users or services". Read the Risk Disclosure and is Dota 2 boosting bannable? before you order.

Dota 2 boosting opens soon. Get the launch alert on the Dota 2 page. The service pages already show live prices for Low Priority removal (from $3.35 a game) and calibration games (orders from $4.00).

FAQ

Common questions

Why can't I play ranked in Dota 2?
Usually one of three things: fewer than 100 hours played, no unique phone number on the Steam account, or Low Priority on your account or on someone in your party. Above 8,500 MMR you also need a registered official name, and you can't queue ranked as a party.
Can I use the same phone number on two Dota 2 accounts?
No. Each ranked account needs its own number. Community wikis add that a number removed from an account can't be used on any account for three months.
What is the maximum MMR difference for a ranked party?
Valve caps the MMR gap in a ranked party but doesn't publish the number, and the community figures disagree. If the game refuses your party, the gap is the likely reason; a party with an Immortal is rated at the Immortal's level.
What are Role Queue Games in Dota 2?
Credits for ranked's role queue. You earn them by searching with every role ticked and spend one when you queue without the high-demand roles. Community wikis say a solo all-roles search earns 4 and you can store up to 60. Since 1 July 2026 a solo player needs at least one high-demand role ticked to avoid spending one.
