- 127 heroes
- 36 · 35 · 34 · 22
- Universal: 0.45 per point
- Primary: +1 damage
Every Dota 2 hero carries three numbers that grow as it levels: Strength, Agility and Intelligence. They decide how much health, armour and mana a hero has, and most heroes also turn one of them into attack damage. This guide explains what each point gives, how primary attributes and the 22 Universal heroes work, how attributes grow through a game, and lists all 127 heroes by attribute with their portraits, as Valve's hero list showed them on 2 November 2026.
- One point: Strength +22 health and +0.1 regen; Agility +0.167 armour and +1 attack speed; Intelligence +12 mana, +0.05 regen and +0.1% magic resistance (community-documented values).
- Primary attribute: +1 attack damage per point of it.
- Universal: 0.45 damage per point of all three (Valve, 7.38); it was 0.6, then 0.7, in 2023.
- 127 heroes: 36 Strength, 35 Agility, 34 Intelligence, 22 Universal (Valve's hero list).
- In patch 7.41 your primary attribute decides which neutral-item enchantments you're offered.
Four attributes, 127 heroes
Valve's hero list sorts every hero into one of four attribute groups. Here is how they split, with Valve's own complexity rating for each (1 is easiest, 3 hardest):
| Attribute | Heroes | Complexity 1 · 2 · 3 | For example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strength | 36 | 21 · 14 · 1 | |
| Agility | 35 | 15 · 16 · 4 | |
| Intelligence | 34 | 14 · 16 · 4 | |
| Universal | 22 | 5 · 13 · 4 | |
| All heroes | 127 | 55 · 59 · 13 | Newest: |
Strength has the highest share of easy heroes: 21 of its 36 carry Valve's easiest rating. Universal is the opposite, with only five easy heroes out of 22. Our beginner heroes guide builds on those ratings.
What one point of each attribute gives
The in-game attribute tooltip shows the figures for your hero; the table uses the values the community documents on Liquipedia, whose last listed change is patch 7.38. They apply to every hero, whatever its primary attribute.
| Attribute | Each point gives | 10 points give |
|---|---|---|
| Strength | +22 maximum health, +0.1 health regeneration | +220 health, +1 health a second |
| Agility | +0.167 armour, +1 attack speed | About +1.7 armour, +10 attack speed |
| Intelligence | +12 maximum mana, +0.05 mana regeneration, +0.1% magic resistance | +120 mana, +0.5 mana a second, +1% magic resistance |
| Primary attribute | +1 attack damage on top of the above | +10 damage |
You can check this against Valve's own data.
Largo starts with 24 Strength, 14 Agility and
21 Intelligence, and Valve's hero data lists 648 health, 327 mana and 4.33 armour at level 1. His Strength accounts for
24 × 22 = 528 of the health, his Intelligence for 21 × 12 = 252 of the mana, and his Agility for about 2.3 of the armour.
Lina works out the same way: 20 Strength and 28 Intelligence give 440 of her 560 health and 336 of
her 411 mana. In both cases the rest is 120 health and 75 mana, the base each of them has before attributes.
There's one notable exception in Valve's data.
Ogre Magi has an innate ability, Dumb Luck,
under which he has no Intelligence and draws his mana and mana regeneration from Strength instead.
Primary attributes and Universal heroes
A Strength, Agility or Intelligence hero gets one attack damage per point of its primary attribute, on top of that attribute's usual bonus. Largo's 24 Strength is 24 of his 63–69 starting damage; Lina's 28 Intelligence is 28 of her 49–57. Patches tune heroes through their attributes too: patch 7.41f cut Lina's base Intelligence from 30 to 28, which took 24 mana, 2 damage and 0.2% magic resistance off her at level 1.
Universal heroes have no single primary attribute. They get the normal bonus from each attribute, and instead of one damage per point of one attribute, 0.45 damage per point of all three. Valve has changed that number twice:
| Patch | Date | Damage per point of each attribute |
|---|---|---|
| 7.33 | 20 April 2023 | 0.6 |
| 7.33c | 13 May 2023 | 0.7 |
| 7.38 | 18 February 2025 | 0.45 (current) |
A worked example. A Universal hero with 20 Strength, 20 Agility and 20 Intelligence gets 60 × 0.45 = 27 bonus damage. A Strength hero with 30 Strength gets 30, however much Agility and Intelligence it has. At 30 in every attribute the Universal hero pulls ahead with 90 × 0.45 = 40.5. Universal heroes reward balanced growth; single-attribute heroes reward stacking one.

How attributes grow: gains, the Attribute Bonus and talents
- Gains per level. Every hero adds a fixed amount of each attribute per level. Largo gains 3.6 Strength, 1.3 Agility and 2.6 Intelligence, so by level 10 his Strength is about 56 before items, worth over 700 extra health.
- The Attribute Bonus. Since patch 7.38 (18 February 2025) "Skill points can now be spent on All Attributes starting at level 2 instead of level 6". Each point adds +2 to every attribute, up to seven times by the community-documented values, so +14 to all three in total.
- Talents. Since 7.40 (15 December 2025) talents use their own talent points at levels 10, 15, 20, 25 and 27 to 30. Valve's notes add that "all +2 All Attributes bonuses [are] skilled by level 22".
- Items. Attribute items add the same per-point values as levelling, which is why a Strength item makes a carry tankier and, on a Strength hero, harder-hitting too.
Attributes in patch 7.41 and in the draft
Patch 7.41 (24 March 2026) made the primary attribute matter for items as well as stats. In the rebuilt neutral items, "Enchantments are no longer randomized", the "Number of Enchantment choices increased from 4 to 5 for Tiers 2-5", and the options on offer depend on the hero's primary attribute. Valve's notes don't spell out what a Universal hero is offered, so we don't guess. The current patch is 7.41f (15 September 2026); our patch guide has the rest of the changes.
Attributes also shape the draft in one mode. Single Draft, the only mode in Low Priority, offers each player four random heroes, one per attribute, as the community wikis describe it. Being able to play one hero from each group turns more of those offers into a game you can win; see our Low Priority guide.
Learn your heroes faster
Attributes explain why a hero feels tanky, fragile or mana-starved; turning that into wins takes games and review. An hour with an Immortal coach is $14.90 today, priced by the same engine as checkout. You can also name up to 5 heroes you'd like played on a boost. Boosting conflicts with Valve's rules (the Steam Subscriber Agreement forbids sharing or selling access to an account); read the Risk Disclosure first. Coaching shares nothing.
