Dota 2 Largo Guide (2026): Abilities, Songs and How to Play the Bard

Largo, Dota 2's newest hero, from Valve's own data: every ability and song with its cooldown and mana, how the rhythm works, the Shard and Scepter, what 7.41f changed and how to play the bard as a support.

  • Strength · melee · support
  • Out since 7.40 (15 Dec 2025)
  • Valve complexity 2 of 3
  • 7.41f: Island Elixir 30/55/80

Largo is the newest of Dota 2's 127 heroes: an amphibian bard who arrived with patch 7.40 and fights by playing music for his team. This guide goes through his whole kit with the numbers from Valve's own hero data on patch 7.41f — every ability and song, how the rhythm of Amphibian Rhapsody works, what Aghanim's Shard and Scepter add and what has changed since release — and then how to play him. The numbers are Valve's; the playing advice is ours, and it's marked as ours.

Short answer: Largo portraitLargo is a Strength, melee support added with patch 7.40 on 15 December 2025; Valve introduced him as "the bard". He pulls an ally or an enemy with Catchy Lick (with a basic dispel), slows and chips at enemies with Frogstomp, cuts an ally's mana costs with Croak of Genius, and in Amphibian Rhapsody plays songs on a one-second beat: damage (Bullbelly Blitz), speed (Hotfeet Hustle) or healing (Island Elixir). Valve rates him complexity 2 of 3 and tags him Support, Durable and Disabler. Patch 7.41f rescaled Island Elixir's heal to 30/55/80.
Key takeaways
  • Strength melee support, complexity 2 by Valve's rating, with the Support, Durable and Disabler tags.
  • Catchy Lick is a save and a catch: it pulls an ally 375 units or an enemy 235–325, with a basic dispel either way.
  • Rhythm is the skill: songs on the one-second beat stack Groovin' up to five times — armour for Largo and cheaper songs.
  • Scepter: two songs on one beat. Shard: the buffs he gives an ally land on him too.
  • 7.41f changed Island Elixir from 34/56/78 to 30/55/80 healing — less at the first two levels, more at the last.

Who Largo is

Valve's post of 16 December 2025 (UTC) introduced him as "Dota's newest hero: Largo, the bard", "the shamanic head of the bardmonk order". Patch 7.40 itself is dated 15 December 2025 in Valve's patch list, and on 2 November 2026 Largo is still the newest hero — the 127th on Valve's hero list, and one of its 36 Strength heroes. Valve's hero data gives him a complexity of 2 on its 1–3 scale and three role tags: Support at the highest level, Durable in the middle and Disabler at the lowest.

His base numbers, as Valve's hero data lists them on 7.41f:

StatLargo portraitLargo
Primary attributeStrength
Strength24 + 3.6 a level
Agility14 + 1.3 a level
Intelligence21 + 2.6 a level
Health / mana at level 1648 / 327

Attack damage63–69
Attack range150 (melee)
Base attack time1.7
Armour4.3
Magic resistance25%
Movement speed290
Vision, day / night1,800 / 800

The 3.6 Strength a level is the number that matters most. Strength adds health, so Largo gets sturdier quickly as he levels — the reason a support can stand at the front with him, and the likely source of the Durable tag. His Agility gain of 1.3 is low, and he doesn't attack at all while he plays music, so his right-clicks are not where his value lies.

Catchy Lick, Frogstomp and Croak of Genius in practice

Catchy Lick is the spell that wins and saves games. On an ally it pulls them 375 units and applies a basic dispel — out of a bad position and out of the effects a basic dispel removes. On an enemy it pulls them back 235–325 units, deals 85/170/255/340 damage and strips the buffs a basic dispel can take off. At 700 range and a 7-second cooldown at level 4 you can use it in almost every fight. Valve's notes add that it can lick runes to pull them.

Frogstomp is a zone, not a single hit. The froglings land after 0.5 seconds and stomp once a second: 4 stomps of 36 damage at level 1 (144 in total) up to 7 stomps of 72 at level 4 (504 in total, before magic resistance), each with a slow of 12–30% and a 0.1-second stun. Throw it where enemies have to stand or walk — on a teammate's stun, in a narrow path, on a hero channelling a spell — rather than at someone who can simply step out of a 350 radius.

Croak of Genius is a tune on an allied hero: their items and abilities cost 15% less mana for 15/20/25/30 seconds, and 30/35/40/45% of their damage from sources that spell amplification affects echoes as extra damage over the next 5 seconds, as long as attacker and target are within 2,000 units. At level 4 the buff lasts 30 seconds against a 25-second cooldown — and Encore stretches it by 15% — so one ally can keep it almost all game.

Amphibian Rhapsody: playing on the beat

When Largo starts to groove he is disarmed and his ability bar switches to three songs; he can still use items. The ultimate costs no mana and has a 2-second cooldown, so stepping in and out is cheap — and you will step out, because Catchy Lick, Frogstomp and Croak of Genius aren't on the bar while the songs are.

The rhythm is the whole hero. Valve's data gives a beat every 1 second with a 0.4-second grace period. A song played on the beat adds a Groovin' stack, up to 5, and each stack gives Largo 2/3/4 armour (by ultimate level) and takes 1/1.5/2 mana off every song; stacks linger for 5 seconds. At five stacks that is 10/15/20 armour, and songs that cost 25/35/45 mana come down to 20, 27.5 and 35.

SongWhat it does (ultimate level 1 / 2 / 3)
Bullbelly BlitzDeals 20/30/40 magical damage to nearby enemies and gives allies a one-second damage buff, with 8/12/16% spell amplification.
Hotfeet HustleGives nearby allies +16/20/24% movement speed for one second and 70/75/80% slow resistance for 0.3 s.
Island ElixirHeals nearby allied heroes for 30/55/80.

Every song has a 0.2-second cooldown, an 800 radius and costs 25/35/45 mana before Groovin'. Values from Valve's hero data on 7.41f.

The three songs answer three moments: Bullbelly Blitz when your team is trading spells, Hotfeet Hustle to chase or to run (the slow resistance is short, so time it on the slow you see coming), and Island Elixir to top up allies after the first burst. Each song's effect lasts a second at most, so the value comes from playing them beat after beat.

Encore, Aghanim's Shard and Aghanim's Scepter

  • Encore (innate): buffs Largo applies to himself or his team last 15% longer.
  • Aghanim's Shard upgrades Encore: whenever Largo gives an allied hero a unit-target buff, he gets it too, and if he targets himself, the nearest allied hero within the ability's cast range gets it as well. A Croak of Genius on your carry is then a Croak of Genius on Largo too.
  • Aghanim's Scepter lets him play two songs on the same beat by strumming both at once. When Bullbelly Blitz is part of that double strum it deals 6/10/14 extra magic damage per Groovin' stack — up to 30/50/70 more at five stacks.

How to play Largo (our take)

This part is our advice, not Valve's, and builds move with every patch.

  1. Queue him as a support.

Position 4 or 5 fits his Support tag and his kit. Ranked is queued by position, and since 1 July 2026 a solo player needs at least one of Valve's high-demand roles ticked to avoid spending a Role Queue Game.

  2. Lane with Frogstomp and Catchy Lick.

Frogstomp zones the enemy off the creep wave; Lick saves your core from a gank or drags an enemy into your lane partner's damage.

  3. Croak your spell caster.

The 15% mana cut helps everyone, but the damage echo only counts damage that spell amplification affects, so it shines on an ally whose damage comes from abilities.

  4. Open fights outside the song, finish them inside it.

Lick and Frogstomp first, then Amphibian Rhapsody and the beat. You're disarmed while you play, so stand where your 800-radius songs reach your team, not in front of it.

  5. Practise the beat before ranked.

Hit the rhythm in a demo or an unranked game until five stacks come naturally; a missed beat is lost armour and dearer songs.

FAQ

Common questions

When was Largo released in Dota 2?
With patch 7.40, dated 15 December 2025 in Valve's patch list; Valve's post introducing him is dated 16 December (UTC). On 2 November 2026 he is still the newest of the 127 heroes on Valve's hero list.
What position is Largo?
A support first: Valve tags him Support at its highest level, plus Durable and Disabler. That fits position 4 or 5, and his Strength attribute and melee range put him at the front of a fight. The position is a player choice, not a Valve rule.
What does Largo's Aghanim's Scepter do?
It lets him play two songs on the same beat by strumming both at once, and Bullbelly Blitz deals extra magic damage per Groovin' stack when it is part of a double strum. His Aghanim's Shard upgrades Encore instead: a unit-target buff he gives an ally also lands on him.
Is Largo hard to play?
Valve rates him 2 on its 1 to 3 complexity scale. The hard part is Amphibian Rhapsody: songs played on the one-second beat build Groovin' stacks, and Largo is disarmed while it is on. Practise the rhythm in a demo or unranked game before you take him into ranked.
